CULBERTSON, SHANNON WADE, 59, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026.  Wade was born September 3rd, 1966 in a small hospital in Hoisington KS.  He was delivered by a close family friend Dr Moore.  His parents Sue (Traylor) Culbertson and James Max Culbertson maintained a family home in Hoisington until 1970.  Wade came home to two siblings Rocky Shawn Culbertson - wife Kym- (older brother) of Weddington NC and Kimberly Culbertson Heiskell (older sister) of Douglass, KS.  He is preceded in death by another brother Jimmie Max Culbertson and his mother, Sue (Culbertson) Miller.  Wade is survived by five children:  Alexis (Culbertson) Crittenden, Adrienne (Culbertson) Hayes, Luke James Culbertson, Lane Owen Culbertson and Caden Max Culbertson.  Eight grandchildren:  Addie, Cam, Brooks, Connor, Aiden, Cal, Colter and Karsyn.   Nieces Kelsey Sakamoto, Kayley Culbertson, McKenzy Culbertson, Jordan Culbertson and nephews Josh Culbertson and Broc Heiskell.     Wade attended preschool, elementary K-6 at South Hillside school, junior high 7-9 at Mead junior high and 10-12 at Wichita South high school.  He began his training in the field of carpentry as a teenager along with attending Wichita State University.  He met and married Christine (Ehrsam) Culbertson bringing five children into their family.  During Wade's career he worked as a trim carpenter and he was a construction superintendent.  Wade managed custom homes for Buchanan Homes, Richie Building Co, McCollom, handled inspection and acceptance of facilities for Sterling House Assisted livings, managed commercial self storage facilities, development manager for Legend builders and commercial remodels for private and VA hospitals.  A city of Wichita citizens award was given to Wade for rescuing and chasing down the criminal who assaulted and robbed an elderly man in downtown.  Wade had a previous marriage, later in life to Taryn Baker of Wichita.                                                                      Wade's passions spanned  from a love of animals, the love of sports, and The Great outdoors.  Wade amassed many childhood pets (from a  flying squirrel, a rat, a ferret raccoons and dogs)  telling his mom they came up to him asking for help.  His mother assigned a common substandard name because she would tell him he couldn't keep them.  One example was Wade's doberman who was named "Dobie", he called him that for the next 16 years.  His first stop after school was always the backyard to play with the animals before doing anything else.                                           Wade also had a love of sports he played in little League through high school in football.  He was named to the all city nose guard position, pole volted and threw shot putt in track and  won the city league diving title three times.  As a father he supported his children's sports interests as well:  attending girl's basketball and volleyball games, and his much loved coaching of his son's and nephew in football.  He also supported his son's love and talents in the sport of wrestling.                                                             Wade was an avid outdoors enthusiast from a young age.  He grew up hunting, fishing and trapping.  His backyard in his early years was Cheyenne Bottoms.  What he enjoyed the most was getting his son's and nephew out to enjoy the outdoors with him.  He was owner operator of LukeWade deer guides.  He shared a love of camping and the lake with his children.  Taking not only his children but also other kids boating, tubing and skiing many times.  He always took the time to enjoy the little things in nature:  like a Kansas sunset, a scenic view in the Flint hills, watching a hive of bees or birds taking flight.                   He leaves behind a legacy defined by a love of animals, sports, the great outdoors and a boldness of spirit and humor few possess.  Although his life was short in duration, it was rich in unique moments.  The spirit of Wade's boldness is forever etched and interwoven into our best memories.  His very finest characteristics have been passed onto his living legacy, his children.  Wade knew his Lord and savior Jesus Christ, and had a relationship with his heavenly father.  Until that circle is unbroken we will miss you.
