Bill’s life was one of quiet strength, steadfast work, and enduring love for his family.
William “Bill” Richard King passed away on October 22, 2026, in Andover, Kansas. He was born on July 31, 1942, in Harrison, Arkansas, to Frederick Arthur King and Ova Marie "VanZant" King.
Bill graduated from Harrison High School in 1960 and went on to attend the University of Arkansas, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business with a minor in marketing in 1964. To help pay for college, he worked during the summers, in Caldwell, Kansas on harvest, and during the school year on the university farm. At times, he walked to the university farm because he did not have money for gasoline, a memory that reflected the determination and perseverance that marked his life.
In March 1965, he married Charlotte, beginning a marriage centered on devotion and family. Bill was a quiet man, a hard worker, and someone who provided well for those he loved. He was deeply devoted to his family, and his proudest accomplishments were his children and grandchildren.
After College, Bill worked for Swift Meat Company in Chicago before returning to Kansas. He later worked for Derby Refining, which became Coastal mart, and retired from Coastal in 1990. Even after retirement, he continued working in commercial real estate development. His steady work ethic and sense of responsibility remained a defining part of his life.
Outside of work, Bill found joy in the things he loved most. He loved horses and old cars, and he faithfully followed the Arkansas Razorbacks, especially football and basketball. Razorbacks football games were a family tradition, and the family held season tickets, creating many shared memories through the years.
Above all, Bill will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and family man. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte King; his children, Shawn King, Matthew King, his wife Melisa, Rebecca Keene, and her husband Kasey; his grandchildren, Morgan King, Lauren Dewey (Brendon), Sarah Popejoy (Jaykub), Samantha Keene, and Olivia Keene; His great granddaughter Evelyn Dewey; his sister, Barbara Comstock, and her husband, Ed Comstock; and his brothers, Robert Keeter, Kenneth Keeter, and Jerry Keeter. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ova Marie VanZant; his father, Frederick Arthur King; his sisters, Freddie Ruth and Jean Travis; and his brother, James King.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist, 417 West Central Avenue, Andover, Kansas 67002. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., also at Faith Baptist with burial to follow at Bruno Township Cemetery in Andover. A reception will follow the burial at 12:30 p.m. at Wichita Country Club, 8501 East 13th Street North, Wichita, Kansas 67206.
Bill’s life was one of quiet strength, steadfast work, and enduring love for his family. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Memorial donations may be made in Bill's memory to St. Jude, Wounded Warrior Project Program, or Faith Baptist Church.
