Valeta Imelda
Hole
December 13, 1935 — May 11, 2026
Andover
Valeta Imelda Hole was born on December 13, 1935 to Gustaf Edward Theodore Adelgren and Angelian Imelda Adelgren (Winterrowd). She grew up on a small farm immediately southwest of Chanute, KS. She was very active with home economics and won grand champion for a blue gingham dress that she designed and sewed in high school. When her older brother Kermit, and his best friend Xury Hole were drafted for the Korean War, the letters flew, and the love grew.
Valeta married Xury Raymond Hole on May 6, 1956 in Chanute. They moved to Wichita after a short time in Burdick, KS, before building a home in Andover in 1964. Xury worked at Beech Aircraft, Valeta was a substitute teacher for Andover and Wichita schools. If you went to school in Andover in the 60s, 70s and 80s you probably had Mrs. Hole as a substitute at least once. Xury and Valeta attended Andover United Methodist Church for many years where Valeta was active in the United Methodist Women. She was also active in Retired Teachers after finishing substituting and the Extension Homemakers Unit(EHU).
She grew an extensive garden at their home and was busy every summer canning vegetables and various jams and jellies. Most famous were her gooseberry pies that raised many dollars for charity. She was most proud the year her pie brought $150 at a silent auction. Post retirement, Xury and Valeta were active at the Senior Center in Andover. Dancing, square and ballroom kept them fit and social, and allowed Valeta to keep sewing just like she had done in high school. They traveled extensively each year, taking their boys and Valeta's mother on vacations during Beech shutdown in the over the cab pickup camper. Montreal, Yellowstone, Washington D.C. all followed by travels with bus trips or cruises in their elder years.
Valeta passed away on May 11th with her sons Ron and Ken by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Xury, and 2 sons, Larry and David. She is survived by her sons, Ron(Sammy) and Ken(Denise) as well as 6 grandchildren, Brad, Josh, David, Zach(Avery), Elizabeth, and James.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Andover United Methodist Church, 1429 N. Andover Rd. Funeral service will then be at 10 a.m., Friday, May 15, 2026 also at Andover United Methodist Church. Valeta will be interred next to her husband Xury at Bruno Township Cemetery in Andover.
Memorial donations may be made in Valeta's memory to Andover United Methodist Church, 1429 N. Andover Rd., Andover, KS 67002 or the Andover Senior Center, 410 Lioba, Andover, KS 67002.
