Uriah "Bob"
Robert Sholl
June 20, 1940 — December 7, 2023
Andover
Uriah Robert "Bob" Sholl, Jr. , a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated community servant, peacefully passed away at his home in Andover on December 7, 2023. He was born on June 20, 1940, in Jefferson City, MO, to Uriah Robert Sholl, Sr., and Alta Arlene {Hester} Sholl.
Bob graduated from Edison High School in Tulsa in 1958 and soon after joined the Navy, where he proudly served for four years in the South Pacific. On June 5, 1960, he married the love of his life, Cleva Jo Hurt, in Pawhuska, OK. Their extraordinary journey began with a proposal on their first date, and six weeks later, they were joyfully engaged. They celebrated 60 wonderful years together before Cleva's passing.
Bob's commitment to service led him to the OSU Fire Academy and the Maryland Fire Academy, where he honed his skills as a firefighter and chief. From 1973 to 1994, he served as the fire chief in Pawhuska and later moved to Grove, where he continued his service as chief until 1998, marking a remarkable 25-year career. During his tenure as chief, he also served as the President of the Oklahoma Fire Chiefs Association from 1994 to 1995.
In addition to his firefighting career, Bob ventured into entrepreneurship, owning the Huskie Grill from 1981 to 1986. His dedication extended to the City of Grove, where he worked as a building inspector for two more years after retiring from the fire service.
Bob's interests were diverse - from woodworking and golf to fishing and volunteering in his church. He was an active member of Grace Harbor Baptist Church in Grove for 20 years, serving on their board of directors for four years. In the last three years, he became a member of Newspring Church in Wichita.
Known for his infectious sense of humor, Bob had a witty response for every occasion. His trademark reply to being told "you are" was always, "I am U. R.," followed by hearty laughter.
Bob's greatest passions were reserved for God and his family. He and Cleva loved to travel, exploring numerous destinations across the US. His close bond with his sister Dovie and her husband Duane provided cherished memories. In the last few years, he enjoyed trips to Harlingen, TX, with his daughter Susan, visiting Dovie and Duane Dyer.
Most importantly, Bob spent the last three years living with and enjoying precious moments with his son Cleve and his family. He cherished "All of his Kids" and actively participated in all major events in their lives.
Bob leaves behind his cherished dogs, Maggie and Millie, his sister Dovie Dyer of TX, children Alan Sholl (JoEllen), Susan Riley (Steve), Cleve Sholl (Tina), bonus daughter Meredith Neumann of Newberry, MI, grandchildren Christopher Sholl, Mikayla {Riley} Laffoon (Dustin), Ronni {Riley} Blankenship (Eric), Abigail Sholl, Hayden Sholl, and Dale Sholl, four great-grandchildren, and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Uriah and Alta, his beloved wife Cleva, and brother-in-law Duane Dyer.
There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, January 9th at 1:00 PM at NewSpring Church, 12200 E 21st St N, Wichita, KS 67206.
Bob will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to service, his contagious laughter, and his boundless love for his family. His legacy of dedication and joy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
