WICHITA

THOMAS "T.J." OWEN MARTIN, JR., 43 , passed away on September 2, 2018 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice surrounded by his family and friends. TJ was born on October 22, 1974 to Thomas O.  and Claudia A. (Curless) Martin in Alton, IL. He graduated from Heights High in Wichita in 1993. TJ was a outgoing free spirit that always told it like it was and would always stand up for people and what was right. He was funny and enjoyed telling stories and making people laugh. TJ was very athletic and competitive enjoying baseball and softball and enjoyed being outside and fishing. He was very intelligent  and good with his hands and could fix anything mechanical, especially mowers. He could build anything and worked in construction most of his life including building houses in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. TJ loved to be the center of attention and was fearless and relatable. He talked to everyone with a positive attitude and made friends wherever he went. Most of all TJ loved being a father and grandfather and his children were everything to him. He loved his family and will be remembered as a compassionate, big hearted man who was willing to help anyone when they needed it.

T J leaves behind his son Taylor J. Martin; daughter Kynslie M. Martin; grandson Brayton J. Martin-Strong; three sisters Jennifer L. Gott, Carey L. Collins and Jeannise L. Cain; father Thomas O. Martin; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Claudia A. Curless; niece Jennifer "JJ" M. Gott; paternal grandparents Harry R. and Marie E. Martin Putnam; maternal grandparents Robert W. and Muriel J. Curless; aunts Alice J. Martin and Margaret J. Pyle; and an uncle Michael A. Curless.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Little Blue Church (formerly Lobb Cumberland Church), 2220 S. MO 7 Hwy, Independence, Missouri 64057.
