Stephen L. Sheridan, 69, passed away on September 5, 2026.

Stephen found joy in the things that brought people together.

Born on June 6, 1957, Stephen grew up in El Dorado, Kansas. At a young age, he moved to Texas, where he finished school and graduated with the class of 1975 from DeBakey High School for Health Professions. He later moved to Arkansas to continue his education, earning an Associate’s Degree in Mortuary Science before returning to El Dorado, a community that remained an important part of his life.

Stephen served his country as a U.S. Marine for two years, carrying that chapter of service as part of a life marked by commitment and steady purpose. He worked in computers for more than 20 years, building a long career through dedication and skill. In 2005, he returned to El Dorado to care for his mother, and in doing so began another meaningful season of work. He served at Carlson’s Funeral Home and other funeral homes in Wichita, and later found a new work family at Heritage Funeral Home for more than 10 years before retiring. His work reflected both reliability and compassion, and he gave his time and effort faithfully in every role he held.

Outside of work, Stephen found joy in the things that brought people together. Stephen loved playing the piano and would take the advantage of playing anytime he found a piano. It was as if it called to him to be played. He enjoyed all kinds of games and especially loved playing Madden football with his grandson. He shared time and laughter playing Magic: The Gathering with his son Casey, and every other Saturday he looked forward to gathering with his Dungeons & Dragons party, even being the Dungeon Master, a dream he had for years. These moments spoke to his playful spirit and the genuine happiness he found in connection, conversation, and shared fun. Stephen loved his Dallas Cowboys and treasured most of all the time he spent with his wife, Karen, and enjoyed traveling with her, making memories together along the way.

Above all, Stephen will be remembered by those closest to him for the life he shared with them and the quiet ways he showed his care. He is survived by his wife, Karen Sheridan, whose companionship and love were an important part of his life; his sons Casey, Sean and David; daughters Ariana, Margaret and Jennifer; sister Lisa; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Janet; adoptive father Ivan and his biological father Roger Jess Pendlay.

Above all, Stephen will be remembered by those closest to him for the life he shared with them.

A Memorial Service will be held on September 18, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.  at Heritage Funeral Home - El Dorado, 206 E Central Ave, El Dorado, KS 67042. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to The Lord's Diner in Stephen's memory.

Stephen’s memory will be carried forward in the lives he touched, in the games he loved, in the work he did with dedication, and in the time he shared so generously with those around him.
