Shirley Ann (Rickerson) Reed-Janzen , age 90, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2024, at Wesley Medical Center. She was born on October 1, 1933, in Wichita, Kansas, the cherished daughter of Charles Manuel and Mamie Belle (Mitchell) Rickerson and one of 13 siblings.

Shirley attended grade school and high school in Towanda. Her family moved to a farm outside Humboldt during her final semester, where she graduated from Humboldt High School. In 1952, Shirley married George Reed, whom she met as a student at Towanda. The couple quickly welcomed three daughters, and Shirley dedicated much of her life to being a homemaker and mother, nurturing her family with love and care. George and Shirley chose to raise their daughters in Towanda, living for more than two decades in their hometown before relocating to El Dorado and finally Andover for the duration of their marriage.

In addition to her role as a devoted mother, Shirley also worked as a teller and in customer service for a community bank. She was a gifted quilter and crafter, and she and George frequently bowled and even went square dancing. The couple also enjoyed traveling until George's passing after 44 wonderful years of marriage.

Shirley later married Herman Janzen, and the couple spent 10 years together living in Elbing. After Herman's passing, Shirley moved back to Andover to be closer to her family and grandchildren, where she delighted in attending their events and spending quality time with them.

Shirley was known for her feisty spirit, determination, and hardworking nature. Her independence was a source of great pride, as she lived on her own in Andover for the last 18 years of her life.

Shirley is survived by her beloved daughters, Paula Claycamp (Dean), Cathy Ketterman (Don), and Marsha Geyer (Roger); grandchildren Amy Ragland (Brad), Dan Claycamp (Carey), Michelle Harris, Tim Ketterman (Keera), Chris Mullennax (Elaine), Sara Lonas (Allen), Matt Geyer (Bridget), and Jennifer Duncan (BJ); great-grandchildren Alissa and Ashley Ragland, Brett, Maci, Brandon, and Hadlee Claycamp, Kaylee Harris, Paige Mullennax, Emma and Kate Lonas, Brody Geyer, and Jackson and Benjamin Duncan. She is also survived by stepdaughters Susan Janzen and Lisa Scott (Mike); stepsons Bruce Janzen (Jeannine) and Russell Janzen (Kris); brother Max Rickerson; sisters Barbara Lynch and Mary Sue McAdam; and a multitude of extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mamie; her husbands, George and Herman; and nine of her 13 siblings.

A funeral service to honor Shirley's life will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at Andover United Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made in Shirley's memory to the Andover United Methodist Church Quilting Group.

Shirley's warmth, determination, and love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
