Sarah Ann Lewis  , a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and true matriarch, passed away on December 17, 2023, at Brookdale East in Wichita. She was born on May 17, 1933, in Stringtown, OK, to James Frank and Solace "Darling" Poe. Sarah grew up in the close-knit communities of Kosoma and Moyers, OK, where she attended school.

On July 7, 1951, in De Queen, Arkansas, Sarah married the love of her life, William Lewis. The couple moved to Wichita, where William and Sarah contributed their talents to Beech Aircraft. Their journey took them to various places, including San Antonio, TX, Georgia, and Michigan, as William served in the military. During William's overseas deployment, Sarah moved back home to be with her parents and upon his return they moved to Andover in 1959 and lived there until moving to senior living this past Spring.

In 1965, Sarah and William welcomed their daughter, Christie, into the world. Sarah dedicated herself to raising Christie during her formative years. As Christie grew older, Sarah took up house cleaning and crafting, showcasing her talents in sewing, quilting, and doll making. She also developed a passion for gardening, canning vegetables, and fly fishing in the streams of Colorado.

Sarah and William enjoyed square dancing and were part of a Square Dancing group in Andover. They cherished moments watching rodeos and episodes of Antiques Roadshow together. Sarah's love for animals, especially cats, was evident as she  raised orphaned kittens and even cared for pet skunks in the house. Her compassion extended to rescuing birds that collided with the back windows of her home.

A remarkable storyteller, Sarah's tales often began with the words, "Now listen." Her protective spirit and unwavering love made her a cherished figure even in the care facility, where she was appreciated by both staff and residents.

Survived by her devoted husband, William Lewis; loving daughter, Christie Henry (Dale); and grandchildren Skyler, Shayne, and Dylan, Sarah leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Solace, and her sister, Pearl Ditzler.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until the service time on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Andover United Methodist Church, 1429 N. Andover Rd., Andover. The funeral service, presided over by Pastor Ryan Lynch, will take place at 2:00 pm on the same day at the church. Interment will follow at Bruno Township Cemetery on North Andover Rd.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to either of the causes that Sarah cared deeply about; the Andover Community Food Bank or Sunlight Children's Home, honoring Sarah's generous spirit and commitment to community welfare. Sarah Ann Lewis will be dearly missed but forever remembered for her strength, love, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of those who knew her.
