Richard Ray
Zeitlow
December 13, 1956 — April 23, 2025
Wichita
Richard "Dick" Zeitlow passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, at the age of 68.
Born in McPherson, Kansas, Dick grew up on a farm with his late parents, W. Richard Zeitlow and Phyllis (Yauk) Elston, and his sisters, E'Vette and Susan. He held many fond memories of ranch life, especially the time spent with his beloved grandmother Alice, his aunt Doris, and uncle Leonard.
Following in his father's footsteps, Dick built a lifelong career in the cattle business. For nearly 50 years—beginning in the 1970s and continuing until just days before his passing—he traveled across Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, buying and shipping cattle. He supplied livestock for backgrounders and feedyards and was a trusted presence at sales across the region, especially in Cherokee, Oklahoma, and Pratt, Kansas. Over the decades, he witnessed and embraced changes in the industry. You could always count on him to be sharply dressed and ready to make something happen. He forged lasting relationships with colleagues and customers alike—many of whom became lifelong friends.
Dick's life took on new meaning with the birth of his daughter, Allison. He cherished being a father, especially the time spent helping with school projects, playing sports in the backyard, and riding horses together. Later in life, he was overjoyed to become a grandfather to Sloan, and was able to spend precious time with her before his passing.
Charismatic, spontaneous, and full of heart, Dick brought energy and joy wherever he went. Whether cruising on his beloved boat, The Prime Rib, playing polo, golfing at Terradyne, or target-shooting in his basement with his pellet gun, he knew how to make any moment memorable. With his magnetic presence, sharp wit and golden heart, Dick leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love. He will be deeply missed.
Dick was laid to rest at Valley View Cemetery in Roxbury, Kansas.
A celebration of life will take place on May 10th, 2025 at Terradyne Country Club from 1-3pm.
