Richard Charles Evans

Richard “Rick” Evans, 68, passed away on October 28, 2026, in Wichita, Kansas.

“

Rick liked to brag that he was born on Father’s Day and that his photo was in the local newspaper.

He was born to Charles and Norma Evans on June 15, 1958, in Camden, New Jersey. Rick liked to brag that he was born on Father’s Day and that his photo was in the local newspaper. His parents moved to the Midwest and Richard lived his early years in Texas, Oklahoma, and finally settled in Derby, Kansas. Rick was a precocious child and he liked to learn how anything worked whether it be mechanical, electrical, and especially computer related. As a result, Rick was always the go-to person to fix anything. All Rick would have to do to is listen to a clank in a car or sit at a computer and he could diagnose it in 10 nano-seconds. Rick encouraged his nephews to learn car and computer repair. As a teen he loved to ride his bicycle. He would ride with his buddy down to the Oklahoma border and back to his home in Derby. Rick later graduated to a motorcycle and bragged about his BMW motorcycle that had a heated seat and handle bars that he would ride on road trips. Rick loved rock music and his favorite band was Kansas. Richard attended Derby High School and graduated with top honors especially in physics and chemistry. Richard attended Wichita Area Technical College and studied electronics and worked for Beech Aircraft and later IFR.  Rick had a quirky sense of humor as follows in this example: This past month he kept saying that his current doctor looked like the picture of the guy on the Monopoly Game Box.

Richard Evans shared 42 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Catherine L. Evans, of Andover, Kansas. Richard was devoted to his wife, family and friends. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Catherine, family, and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Charles Evans and Norma (Jenks) Evans.   He is survived by his wife, Catherine L. Evans.  Richard is also survived by his two sisters Terry (Evans) McDowell, Valerie (Evans) Worley; two nephews, Joe Worley and Casey Worley, and great niece, Rosie Worley, and great nephew, Otto Worley.

Though he will be profoundly missed, Rick’s love will live on in the hearts of his friends and family, in the stories they tell, and in the memories they cherish.

Valerie Worley, sister

Rick may not have been rich in this world as the world considers riches, but he had a giant heart for the underdog, people on the fringes of society. He was always bailing someone out of jail, taking people home that drank a bit much, getting people to the doctor or hospital or fixing their car or computer for little or no charge. One time he made a little solar panel set up for a elderly lady whose electricity was shut off. He wanted to at least make sure she had some light on at night until she got her bills paid. One time I came home from church, I find my brother had brought a homeless person to my home I never met before. Later, he helped her move into a Section 8 housing unit. I think the best tribute I can make is from a quote from a friend who was in a sober living housing in another state who texted me last year when he heard Rick had been very ill. Here is the what this individual said: "He's a good friend. Believe me when I say that. I don't care for most people at all. I rarely use the term good man or good friend in conversation. Let alone both of them in the them in the same sentence." I think that sums up his life. I know I will see him again and that will be a great reunion. Love, his sister, Valerie.
