Paula Kay
Cox
April 26, 1961 — November 26, 2023
Fall River
Paula Kay Cox , daughter, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the community, passed away on November 26, 2023, at her home in Fall River, Kansas, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on April 26, 1961, in West Point, NY, to Barbara Joann (Ryherd) Maxwell.
Paula's early years were marked by adventure as her family moved regularly, including a two-year sojourn in France during her youth. Her family settled back home in Kansas, attending junior high in Garden City and later graduating from South High in Wichita in 1979. During her high school years, Paula began her long career, working at D&M Hardware in 1977, where she continued to contribute through the years.
Paula met Gary Cox in her teens through his best friend, her Uncle Steve. Fast forward to 1982, their friendship developed into something more meaningful. On April 29, 1983, Paula and Gary were married. Over the last 40+ years, they built a wonderful family of 3 children and 8 grandchildren. In 1998, Gary and Paula fulfilled a dream by purchasing a cabin at Fall River Lake, a weekend gathering place for family and friends. What was once just a get-away became their permanent home in September 2010 and Paula's peaceful refuge; her home in life and beyond.
An avid bowler, Paula spent many joyful years bowling with family and friends, and she also ventured into the world of golf. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs, relishing every game, and found pleasure in playing Bingo. As the casinos opened, Paula enjoyed trying her luck there as well.
However, Paula's greatest passion was reading, a hobby she embraced from an early age. She would often find herself in trouble for staying up late, reading by flashlight under the covers. She had a particular fondness for fan fiction, Louis Lamour, the Harry Potter series, and the Fellowship of The Ring series. Perhaps though, most of all, her love of Pride and Prejudice.
Paula's most cherished moments revolved around her family. She was known for her generosity and love, but also for her strong-willed and outspoken personality. Paula had the courage to speak her mind and was never afraid to share her thoughts with those around her.
Paula Kay Cox is survived by her parents, Barbara and John Maxwell; her loving husband, Gary Cox; her children, Amanda Steinert (Lance), Zach Cox (Jessica), and Kim Creamer (Buddy); her siblings, Danny Winger and Tim Winger (Jennifer); half-brother, George "Georgie" Winger; her grandchildren, Zaden, Bella, Karson, Cannon, Aliza, Levi, Seth, and Ellie, as well as many other beloved family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by numerous family members whose memory she now joins.
A celebration of Paula's life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at The Goddard Church, 300 N. Cedar, Goddard, Kansas. As we come together to remember Paula, let us celebrate the joy, love, and indomitable spirit that she brought into our lives. May she rest in
peace, and may her memory live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Always and forever. "Death is but the next great adventure." – Albus Dumbledore.
Paula's family would like to thank the Traditions Hospice Care Team for their guidance and support during these difficult times.
