Patricia
Delventhal
October 30, 1930 — September 15, 2023
Wichita
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patricia (Pat) Delventhal, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world on September 15, 2023, peacefully at her home in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 92. Pat was born on October 30, 1930, in Arlington, Kansas, to Albert Burton and Adonis Fehr Cooper.
Pat's journey through life was marked by her faith, resilience, determination and a warm heart that touched the lives of many. She attended and graduated from school in Arlington before pursuing her passion for education at Sterling College, where she earned her teaching certificate. Her dedication to teaching led her to the classroom, where she inspired countless young minds. She also had a passion for music. She taught piano and played the organ in church for a time.
Pat's life took a turn when she married Thomas Cummings, becoming a devoted military wife. Together, they endured the challenges of frequent moves, and from this union, they were blessed with two daughters. Pat always believed that she could accomplish anything she put her mind to so she returned to school to master computer technology, excelling to the point where she not only secured a job in the field, but eventually became a computer programming instructor.
After parting ways with Tom, Pat embarked on a journey back to her Kansas roots. With her two daughters, son-in-law, grandson, pets and 127 household plants, they trekked from Washington state to Arlington, Kansas where her parents still lived.
It was during this time that she attended her high school reunion, rekindling a romance with her high school sweetheart, Claude "Del" Delventhal. Their love story led to a joyful marriage.
In the 1980s, Pat and Del ventured into business together, buying the Arlington gas station and transforming it into a successful muffler shop and full service station where you could fix a flat tire, find some lunch and maybe even a little needed advice. During this same period, Pat enjoyed driving a school bus where she treated the students with compassion, was a listening ear and encouraged students to graduate.
Eventually, Pat and Del decided to sell the station and enjoy retirement. They bought a home at Lake Kanopolis in Ellsworth county where they enjoyed friends, fishing, boating and jet skiing, even though Pat never conquered her childhood fear of the water.
Pat and Del later embarked on a new adventure, becoming full-time RVers. They split their time between Branson, Missouri and south Texas, where they wintered. They enjoyed attending shows in Branson with friends. Pat was known for her organizational skills and unwavering commitment to her plans, so it was only natural that she and Del volunteered to run the kitchen at the RV Park in Branson where they were famous for their big breakfasts.
Pat was a woman of many passions. She had a voracious appetite for reading, a talent for word puzzles, and a fascination with online jigsaw puzzles. She liked to sew and crochet, loved craft fairs and cherished her animals. Pat could frequently be seen driving her golf cart around the RV park with a cat or small dog as a co-pilot. She also enjoyed the mountains and spending summers with family at her daughter's home in Colorado.
Her strong faith guided her throughout her life, and she found joy in the company of others, always ready to lend an ear and offer a helping hand. Her faith led her to frequently advise others to, "Quit worrying about things that haven't happened yet." It's good advice to remember. Pat's love for animals was evident, and her caregiving extended beyond humans to the furry members of her family.
Pat is survived by her loving daughters, Patrice Cummings and Nancy Jones (Scott), honorary son David Skiffington (Tom) and stepchildren Scott Delventhal (Julie), Syndi Delventhal and Stacey Delventhal. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Greg Skiffington and Sarah Johnson (Daragh Grant), as well as her great-granddaughter, Alexis Skiffington, and numerous other beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Cummings, and her second husband, Claude "Del" Delventhal.
Patricia Delventhal will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, her love of learning, and her ability to touch the lives of those around her. She has left an indelible mark on her family and friends, and her legacy of faith, love, and resilience will continue to inspire us all. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
