Michael Daren
Lane
September 26, 1947 — May 11, 2025
Andover
Michael Daren Lane , born September 26, 1947, in Coffeyville, Kansas, was a man whose life reflected quiet strength, steadfast dedication, and deep, enduring love for those around him. The son of Daren and Pauline (Smallwood) Lane, Michael grew up with the values of hard work, humility, and kindness—qualities that would shape the legacy he leaves behind.
Michael was a proud graduate of Field Kindley Memorial High School, Class of 1966. Soon after, he began his career at Cessna, starting with a broom in hand as a Grade 9. But Michael was never one to settle—through skill, determination, and an unwavering work ethic, he rose through the ranks. From nose cone spinner to welder, and finally to tool and die specialist, he devoted 44 years to the craft, retiring in 2012 with a career marked by integrity and loyalty.
Outside of work, Michael found joy in the simple things that matter most. He loved working on cars, often with a grease-stained smile and an eagerness to solve whatever mechanical puzzle was in front of him. But above all, it was his family that brought him the greatest happiness. Holidays, birthdays, and every moment in between were cherished opportunities for Michael to connect, to give, and to be present. He was especially proud of his nephew Brent, always ready with a story, a word of encouragement, or just a listening ear.
Michael's heart was generous and his soul gentle. He lived simply but loved richly, and those who knew him remember him not for grand gestures, but for the quiet, consistent kindness he offered day after day. He was a true friend, a beloved brother, and a steady presence in the lives of many.
He is survived by his brother Doug Lane (Rosemary), his nephew Brent Lane (Kodi), and his longtime friend and coworker Gaylen Amos (Peggy), along with other dear family and friends who were lucky enough to know him. He now reunites with his parents, Daren and Pauline; his grandparents, Dewey and Anna Smallwood, and Tom and Maude Lane—all of whom surely welcomed him with open arms.
Michael's life reminds us that greatness is not always loud—it can be found in loyalty, in love, in a lifetime of quiet contributions and unwavering care. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
