Michael C.
Abercrombie
September 23, 1948 — November 26, 2023
Andover
Michael C. Abercrombie (Mike), 75 , passed away peacefully on November 26, 2023 at his home surrounded by the love of his life, his wife Verna Abercrombie. He was born in Arkansas on September 23, 1948 to Wallace and Ruby Abercrombie. He moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1976 after establishing a career in computer programming and data science as a pioneer in micro-processing. It was here that he met and married his favorite hobby and obsession, his wife Verna. After moving to Andover in 1978, Mike spent time serving his church and community. He was a Boy Scout leader, a baseball coach, volunteered his astronomy skills and knowledge with the Girl Scouts, and was on the Andover Planning Board along with numerous other activities.,
He lived every moment of his life to the fullest. One of his greatest joys was playing golf with Zack and "Uncle Butch," where they enjoyed hours and hours of sharing stories, jokes, and enjoying each other's' company. He found much joy pursuing his many hobbies and interests, including scuba diving, telescope making, astronomy, CB/shortwave radio, model rockets and RC airplanes, leatherwork, artwork, playing guitar, scouting, motorcycle trips across the country, playing blackjack, and countless concerts. He also enjoyed being a part of creating some of the first micro-processing computer games, including developing a prototype of touchscreen technology. But nothing gave him more joy in life than his family.
Survived in life by his wife of 46 years, Verna, they enjoyed many hours of traveling and spending as much time as possible with family. Also survived by daughter Amanda (Phil) Cross and son Zack (Kristyn) Abercrombie, and his four grandchildren: Miles and Megan Cross and Elliott and Aspen Abercrombie, as well as his younger sisters Susan (Eddie) Harris and Lesa (Tim) Elrod, sister-in-law Rhonda Abercrombie and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Wallace, his mother Ruby, and his younger brother Johnny Abercrombie.
Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him and his memory will forever be cherished. A celebration of life is being planned for the spring with details provided at a later time. Mike's family would like to thank the Phoenix Hospice Care team for their help and support.
"His spirit has permeated my soul and is allowing and encouraging me to continue to live and love all we had together and what we would have had in the future. This gives me great peace and joy in the knowledge that we are eternally and completely connected forever and ever."
