Melvin L. Runyan Jr.

Melvin leaves behind memories that will not soon be forgotten—the stories, the unexpected comments, the adventures, and the moments that made him uniquely himself.

Melvin L. Runyan Jr., 71, of Andover, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on August 13, 2026.

Melvin was born to Ava Arnett and Melvin L. Runyan Sr. He was a hardworking and talented man who made his living as a mechanic and body man. He had a natural ability to work with his hands and a passion for figuring things out and making things work.

Melvin was an interesting person who was truly one of a kind. You never quite knew what was going to come out of his mouth, and that was part of what made him so memorable to the people who knew and loved him. He enjoyed flying, racing go-karts, and shopping on Amazon. He could also be found relaxing at home in his robe, watching old Western shows—comfortable and perfectly content in his own way.

Melvin will be deeply missed by his children, Debbie Selena Runyan, Melvin L. Runyan III “Elska,” Jason Lee Runyan, and Justin Lee Runyan; and his grandchildren, Arianna Maria Hernandez, Carlos Daniel Vega-Hernandez, and Luisa Salinas.

He will be remembered as a hardworking mechanic and body man, a father and grandfather, and an unforgettable character who lived life in his own way.

He is also survived by his sister, Betty L. Soliz, and his brother, Jimmy P. Runyan “Carla,” Debra S. Shelton "Kevin" along with his extended family and many friends whose lives he touched.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin L. Runyan Sr. and Ava Arnett; his siblings John F. Runyan, Jerry W. Runyan, and Cynthia K. Hammonds; and Otis Runyan, Dereck Runyan, Michael Wolfe, Jamie Runyan, and Amber Walters.

Melvin leaves behind memories that will not soon be forgotten—the stories, the unexpected comments, the adventures, and the moments that made him uniquely himself. He will be remembered as a hardworking mechanic and body man, a father and grandfather, and an unforgettable character who lived life in his own way.

His family and friends will carry his memory with them and miss him more than words can say.
