Mary Ethel
Walker
November 11, 1953 — July 31, 2025
Marquette
Mary Ethel (Snyder) Walker, age 71, of Marquette, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Riverview Estates in Marquette, Kansas, where she had resided since 2017.
Mary was born on November 11, 1953, at the Limes Maternity Clinic in Logan, Kansas, the beloved daughter of Forrest Eugene "Ike" Snyder and Mildred Euvaughn "Bonnie" (Schooler) Snyder. She was named in honor of her grandmothers, Mary G. (Padgett) Schooler and Minnie Ethel (Garton) Snyder, a reflection of her family's deep roots and enduring values.
Mary grew up in Logan and graduated with the Class of 1971 from Logan High School, a proud accomplishment that began a lifetime of compassion and hard work. She went on to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)—a role that perfectly matched her gentle spirit, kind heart, and love for caring for others.
Throughout her life, Mary had a traveler's heart and a love of new places. She lived in Maine, Oregon, Texas, Montana, North Dakota, Colorado, and Kansas, each place adding a new chapter to her story. Yet of all the places she called home, Colorado Springs, Colorado held her heart. She often spoke of it fondly and dreamed of visiting again, cherishing the memories and the beauty of the mountains she loved so dearly.
Mary's interests were many and meaningful. She had a special love for fishing, where she found peace in nature, and she enjoyed the quiet creativity of leatherworking and embroidery—crafts that expressed her patience and attention to detail. Her passion for genealogy led her to uncover and preserve the stories of those who came before her, linking past generations to the present with care and pride.
Family meant everything to Mary. She deeply cherished her time spent with her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and even great-great-nieces and nephews. To them, she was a source of love, stories, encouragement, and fun—a treasured aunt whose impact will be felt for generations.
Mary is survived by her loving siblings: Marlene Wymore of Murchison, Texas; Leora Horner (Wayne) of Little River, Kansas; Laveta Spargo of Hays, Kansas; Ila Mittan (Ellis) of Benkelman, Nebraska; Dean Snyder (Glenda) of Overton, Texas; Glenn Snyder (Lucy) of Great Bend, Kansas; Allen Snyder of McPherson, Kansas; and Dale Snyder (Ann) of La Crosse, Kansas. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members who will miss her dearly.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Helen Hammack; infant sister Wilma Snyder; and brother Darrell Snyder.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 1:30 P.M., at Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan, Kansas. Inurnment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan, Kansas. Please bring your own chair for the service..
