Mary Jane "Jane" Burtin

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Jane "Jane" Burtin, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, on March 11, 2024, at Susan B. Allen Hospital. Jane, aged 86, lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and a tireless commitment to her community and family.

Born on August 15, 1937, in El Dorado, Kansas, to Floyd and Clial (Hamilton) Doornbos, Jane's early years were spent on the family farm northeast of El Dorado. She attended a local country school before transitioning school in El Dorado graduating in 1954 from El Dorado High School. Jane's determination and love for learning led her to Butler College for a year, and later, she graduated from the nursing program at Susan B. Allen.

On August 31, 1958, Jane married the love of her life, Marvin Burtin, embarking on a journey filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. Jane worked as a dedicated nurse for her brother; Dr. Fred Doornbos; at his practice. As her family began to grow, she embraced the role of a stay-at-home mother, later returning to her nursing career, ultimately serving with compassion on the OB floor at Susan B. Allen Hospital after her children were all in school.

Beyond her professional achievements, Jane was deeply involved in her church, offering her time, talents, and voice to the choir—a source of great joy throughout her life. An enthusiastic supporter of Butler basketball and football; especially during nicer weather; a member of the Knife and Fork Club and the Community Concert, Jane's interests were as diverse as they were engaging. She was known for her sewing skills, her love for playing Bunco, and her zest for life, always making friends and brightening the lives of those around her.

As a grandmother, Jane was incomparable—her playful spirit and boundless love earned her the title of "fun" grandma, a role she cherished deeply.

In her later years, despite health challenges, Jane's warmth and kindness never waned. She and Marvin moved to Lakepoint Assisted Living Community, where she thrived, immersing herself in activities and music, always a source of light and joy to those around her. After Marvin passed away, they moved her to a studio room that overlooked the garden area where she had hummingbird feeders right outside of her window.

Jane leaves behind a legacy of love and memories cherished by her children, Dana Noffsinger (Steve), Lynda Denton, and Brent Burtin (Terri); her 3 grandsons; 5 granddaughters; 4 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters that she adored; and a community of friends who were blessed to know her. She now reunites in eternal peace with her beloved Marvin, her parents, her siblings, and her treasured Papillons, Penny and Poppy.
