Mary "Katie"
Catherine Sills
July 12, 1958 — July 22, 2025
Andover
Mary Catherine "Katie" Sills , beloved daughter, partner, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at the age of 67. Katie was born on July 12, 1958, in Wichita, Kansas, to Bruce and Betty Bales. From her earliest days, Katie radiated a vivacious spirit and boundless compassion that would leave a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Katie spent her childhood in Wichita, where she graduated from Heights High School and began her college studies. Her adventurous heart led her westward to Reno, where she embarked on a career in the trucking industry and started her family. It was in Reno that Katie discovered her professional calling as a commodities broker—a role in which she excelled, finding her niche and building a reputation for integrity and diligence.
Lifes winding path brought Katie back to Wichita for a brief time before she settled in Colorado. There, her entrepreneurial spirit flourished as she partnered to establish a commercial sales firm. Ever fueled by curiosity and a love for new experiences, Katie later moved to Missouri and, ultimately, returned to Andover, Kansas, where she retired.
A devoted animal lover with an especially soft spot for dogs, Katie rescued and cared for many throughout her life, offering each a loving home. Her passions extended far beyond her career and her pets. She was an avid gardener, finding joy among her plants, which in turn inspired her love of canning. Katie delighted in painting, skiing, and solving crossword puzzles, filling her days with creativity and adventure.
Katies warmth was magnetic—she never met a stranger, and her infectious enthusiasm drew people to her wherever she went. Her compassion, generosity, and optimistic outlook enriched the lives of all who crossed her path.
Katie is lovingly remembered by her longtime partner, Tim Aden; her cherished daughters, Jenifer Jane Mutari (Brandon) and Amy Michelle Gonzales (Richard); her siblings, Patty Ebenkamp (David), Bob Bales (Kathy), and Susie Salmans (Jack); and her adored grandchildren, Ethan and Jace. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Betty Bales.
Katies legacy is one of love, laughter, and kindness. She leaves behind a constellation of friends and family whose lives have been brightened by her presence. She will be deeply missed, but her adventurous spirit and compassionate heart will live on in the memories she created and the lives she touched.
A celebration of Katies remarkable life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a local animal rescue in her honor, reflecting Katies lifelong dedication to giving every creature a loving home.
