Mark Earl Wakefield , beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and friend, passed away on October 20, 2024, at the age of 54. Born on September 28, 1970, in El Dorado, Kansas, to Darwin and Shirley Wakefield. Mark was a vibrant spirit who left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him.Growing up, Mark thrived in sports, excelling in football and basketball, and graduated from Andover High School in 1987. He pursued his passion for automobiles at Butler Community College, where he studied auto body work. Shortly after, he established his own detailing shop, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit. Mark later transitioned into the role of RV repair technician, where he worked his way up to assistant manager/service writer demonstrating his dedication and skill in the field.


In 1992, Mark began his family journey, adopting his first son, and welcomed three more children in the years that followed. In a twist of fate, he met his soulmate Karen on Match.com. They married on September 3, 2016, blending their families and creating a home filled with love and laughter.


Mark was a devoted family man who cherished every moment with his wife and children. He enjoyed fishing and riding motorcycles, becoming an active member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. A passionate Kansas City Chiefs fan, he brought enthusiasm to every game, sometimes testing the limits of friendships on social media with his unwavering loyalty.
Mark was known for his playful sense of humor, always seeking to bring a smile to those around him. He was fiercely independent, often refusing to ask for help, and found companionship in his faithful lap dogs Sarge and Harley.


He is preceded in death by his son, Trevor Wakefield. Mark is survived by his loving wife, Karen; his parents, Darwin and Shirley Wakefield; sons Mason, Gavin, Logan, and John Ligon; daughter Marilyn Ligon; sisters Denise Wakefield-Dice, residing in El Cajon, California and Pamela Brown (Max); and 14 cherished grandchildren.


Mark's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends, whose lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and love. Funeral services will be held  Monday, October 28th at 10:00 a.m. at Metro East Baptist Church, 333 N. 143rd st. N, Wichita KS. where friends and family are invited to share their memories and honor a remarkable man who lived life to the fullest. Viewing will be Sunday October 27th from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 502 W. Central Andover KS.
