Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend Lucille "Lucy" {Cavazos} Christian, 75, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026 at her home in Andover.

Born in San Benito, Texas to Santiago and Maria Cavazos, she was the oldest of ten children. She lived in California, and eventually moved to Kansas where she joined the U.S. Army reserves. While Lucy moved many times throughout her life, she remained deeply rooted in her Hispanic culture, her family whom she adored, and her love for our Lord Jesus Christ. Lucy received her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish as an adult from Friends University and went on to receive her Graduate degree in Spanish from Wichita State University. She became a teacher of her native language of Spanish and loved to travel with her students abroad to countries such as Costa Rica, Mexico, Spain and Morocco. She was able to see one of the world's great wonders, Machu Picchu in Peru, her daughter Lori's university in Puerto Rico and also enjoyed a trip to Italy with her Aunt Luz. Lucy hosted 2 international exchange students, Yuri (Mexico) and Lorena (Ecuador) and made sure that daughter Wendy experienced a summer in Ecuador.

Lucy particularly enjoyed spending time with her 8 grandchildren.  She shared stories of her adventures, a portion of them true. Her grandchildren noted that when they were young, they thought their Grandma was rich, based on the generosity that she showed them.  As they grew into adults, they realized that she did not really have a lot, she just gave a lot. Lucy cracked the corniest jokes, including, "Do you know how many people are dead in that cemetery? No grandma, how many? ALL of them!" She wore that red lipstick, without fail. She would light candles, play her Native American flute music and could turn any ordinary day into the most special day to remember.

The name Lucy means light, and light was exactly what she brought into our lives. Her light will continue to shine through those she loved so well until we meet again in our heavenly home. Matthew 5:14-16 says "You are the light of the world.  A town built on a hill cannot be hidden...let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Lucy is preceeded in death by her husband Lynn Christian, her parents Santiago and Maria Cavazos, her brothers Santiago Junior and Bobby, and her sister Betty Jean.

She is survived by her two daughters, Wendy Wilgers of Newton and Lori Morton of Wichita. She called them her "pride and joy". Her grandchildren, Courtney (Kendall), Kayla, Adam (Anna), Aubrey (Jack), Lane, Avery, Ella and Brody. Her great grandchildren, Josie Jean, Ruby Ruth, Kolby Wayne, Quincy Mae, Arthur Otto, and Loyd Charles. Her siblings, Sofia, David, Susie, Christina, Danny and Gracie.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at the Kechi Cemetery.
