Smith, Luava Louise, 75, passed away December 24, 2022 in Andover.

L uava was born on September 1, 1947 to Norbert and Bernita (Bellerive) Benoit in Damar, KS. She was later adopted by Virgil Genter when her mother remarried. She grew up in Wichita, KS, and graduated from South High. After graduation, she married Gary Smith. They moved around some, including Dallas, Chicago, and Arkansas. Luava eventually settled in Winfield, KS, where she worked at S&H, and finally retired in Andover.

L uava was free spirited, politically outspoken, but at the same time quiet and reserved. She was close to her family and loved being involved in Aging Foster Grandparent Program. She also enjoyed Bingo, cards, and dancing.

L uava is survived by Son Danny Smith; brothers Rolland Benoit, Dick Genter, Lance Genter, and Michael Genter; sisters Angie Wormhoudt, Lana Martindale, Anna Slavin, and Zona Wehking; 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by daughter Shannon Engelbrecht and brother Adrian Genter.

A memorial mass will be held January 16 th at 10:30 AM at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Andover, with interment to follow at 1:30 PM at Resurrection Cemetery, Wichita.
