It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Louis Eugene "Gene" Harrison, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Gene left this world peacefully on February 4, 2024, at Lakepoint Nursing Center in El Dorado concluding a remarkable journey of 90 years.

Born on Main Street in Benton, Kansas, on March 14, 1933, to Francis and Gladys (Wintermote) Harrison, Gene was a lifelong resident of Benton, a place he dearly loved and devoted himself to. Raised alongside four sisters, he was imbued with strong family values from a young age, values he carried throughout his life. Gene's early education was at Benton Grade School, and he went on to graduate from Benton High School.

Gene's adventurous spirit led him to attend a semester of college in El Dorado, but his heart belonged to Benton and, more importantly, to his high school sweetheart, Frances L. Fuller. The young couple married on June 28, 1952, embarking on a journey of love and companionship that would endure for over seven decades.

Professionally, Gene began his career at El Dorado Refining, acquiring a myriad of skills that would later define his path. The refinery's closure in the 1980s was not an end but a new beginning for Gene. With resilience and an entrepreneurial spirit, he transitioned into a successful career as a construction and handyman, becoming known affectionately as the "Benton HandyMan." From houses to barns and everything in between, Gene's craftsmanship and dedication made him a pillar of the community.

Gene's commitment to his community extended beyond his professional work. He was an active member of the Lions Club, served diligently at the Benton Senior Center, and was a devoted member of his church community, where he shared his musical talents as a Deacon and Song Leader. His contributions to the community were immeasurable, marked by generosity, hard work, and a steadfast spirit.

Gene's life was a testament to the value of dedication, love, and service. He was a man who cherished his family, rejoiced in serving others, and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His handwritten cards and poems will be remembered as tokens of his thoughtful nature.

Gene leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance, survived by his beloved wife, Frances; his children, Rose Mayginnes (Butch), Nancy Mock (Steven), and Paul Harrison (Kim); his grandchildren, Shelby, Brent, Jason, Adam, Andrea, Eric, and Kyle; 16 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Joann, Yvonne, and Opal; and a host of family and friends. Gene was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first great-great-grandchild in April. He was preceded in death by his parents, his youngest sister Willa, and his daughter Paula Jean in 1953.

Family will hold a Memorial Gathering at 1:00 p.m. on March 23, 2024 at the Benton Community Center, 150 S. Main St., Benton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Benton Senior Center or the Freedom Bible Fellowship Church, organizations close to Gene's heart.

Gene's memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, a lasting tribute to a well-lived life. May he rest in peace, knowing he made the world a better place for those around him.
