Lloyd Elden
Creed
November 11, 1928 — December 24, 2021
Wichita
CREED, LLOYD ELDEN, 93, passed away at his home in Wichita, Kansas on December 24, 2021. By his side was his loving wife of 73 years, Peggy (Dull) Creed. Born November 11, 1928, in Wellington, KS, Lloyd was the eldest of the six children of Edwin and Clara (Mezger) Creed. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Florene Ross and Linda (Harvey) Goforth, and brother Larry Creed; surviving sisters are Lois Smetana and Leela (Earl) Haggard, both of Wichita.
Lloyd was the proud father of four sons. Their love was strongly played out as the four served as caregivers for their parents over the past months. Mike (Shelley) Creed, of Lake of the Ozarks; Dave (Shirley) Creed and Steve Creed, both of Wichita, who led the caregiving team; John (Joan) Creed, of Loveland, CO. Family survivors include nine grandchildren: 'becca Creed Nimrod, "Abi-gail" Creed Krulatz, Griff' Creed; Benjamin David Creed; Jacob Ross Toben, Annie Christine Hutchinson, Joe Connor Creed; Hannah Marie Creed, Tucker Colby Creed; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A lifelong resident of the Wichita area, Lloyd was a standout multi-sport athlete at Wichita East High School where his greatest love was baseball. He attended Wichita State University, then represented Lampton Welding Supply as a successful salesman for 45 years. His life-passions included cheering on his sons, then grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all things sports related. As faithful fans Peg and Lloyd traveled across Kansas, Missouri, and Colorado to cheer on their legacy of Creed athletes. An avid golfer, Lloyd was well known among many golfers' circles in the Wichita area.
Upon retirement, Lloyd and Peg enjoyed traveling the USA as well as internationally. Having purchased the Creed Family Cabin in 1970, Westcliffe, Colorado, became a home-away-from-home and upon retirement, it became their summer home. Peg and Lloyd both loved and enjoyed the mountains and the friends made in Colorado; they especially loved their "Tanglewood Acres Family" and worshiping there at David's Chapel on Sunday mornings. Lloyd loved hiking and mastered many peaks, still climbing and leading treks at age 85!
Lloyd was a man of great character and silent service. In 2017 at age 89, he was recognized on Fox-Kansas, as the Pay It Forward Volunteer for his service to the American Red Cross. For 15 years, Lloyd drove over 200,000 miles delivering blood, across the state of Kansas. He encouraged others to seek out such opportunities, "… for though the pay isn't much, it really is a lot of fun…" Lloyd was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 65 years and a longtime member of the Andover United Methodist Church.
Lloyd was a warrior and outlived projected medical timelines, as he fiercely battled the leukemia that eventually took his life; he was strong and never quit fighting. Visiting medical personnel were amazed by his will and toughness. The strength of his heart was demonstrated not only by his service to others but by his valiant battle against his diagnosis.
If you would like to honor Lloyd Creed, please consider making a donation in his name to American Red Cross of South Central and Southeast Kansas, 707 N. Main, Wichita, Kansas 67203.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 31, 2021 from 9:30 a.m to 11:00 a.m. with funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m., both at Andover United Methodist Church, 1429 N. Andover Rd., Andover, KS 67002. Interment will follow at Wichita Park Cemetery.
