Shaw
December 22, 1925 — September 24, 2022
El Dorado
SHAW, JUANITA LOIS, 96 , passed away on September 24, 2022 at El Dorado Care and Rehab. Juanita was born on December 22, 1925 in Newkirk, Oklahoma to Lewis Dewitt and Elsie Gertrude {Hedrick} Hainds. Juanita was raised in Arkansas City and graduated high school from there in 1943, after which her fiancé PFC William Lamoille Lamberson was killed during the war and she spent time doing volunteer work for the USO in the Arkansas City and Winfield areas.
In her youth Juanita worked at a candy factory, loved to dance and rollerskate; which she did competitively and for work as a carhop. Juanita was a Southwestern Bell Operator when she met Walter Martin Shaw. They married and she helped her husband in the Shaw Burner Company, working on his books and accounting. After they sold the business, they went into the crude oil business where they drilled 14 producing rigs. In 1958, their only child, Sharon Louise Shaw, was born. They moved to Columbus, Kansas in 1959 where Walter reestablished his business and she began working for the Murdoch Funeral Home. After Walter died in 1968, she worked at the Parsons Army Ammunition Plant, where she was a jeep and forklift operator. Later, while living in Columbus, Juanita was a worker and later a supervisor over Labette and Cherokee Counties in Homemaker Services Department for the State of Kansas, from which she retired. Juanita also lived in Lawrence, KS in 1996-1999 and El Dorado, KS in 1999 until her death, during which time she returned to work she enjoyed, at Heritage Funeral Home for a few years.
Juanita was always very religious and very involved in whatever church she was attending at the time, most currently Haverhill Christian Church. Juanita's passion was as a volunteer, spending most of her life supporting non profits and giving freely of her time. She often said she believed "God gave her the gift of helps and (she) needed to use it". Some of the things she volunteered for were Leadership Butler, Boxes to War, Golden Grizzlies, Life Enrichment, El Dorado Senior Center, Butler Oil Museum, the Unwed Mother's Home, Susan B. Allen Sewing Saints and Pink Ladies to name a few. She was a very supportive fan of the El Dorado Broncos Baseball Team, and member of the VFW Auxilliary and American Legion Auxillary from which she had received her 60 year pin. Juanita even traveled to Mexico, on a mission trip, with an eye doctor to help as he performed various surgeries there. Painting, sewing, quilting and needlework were all passions that Juanita held. She taught Tole painting at Labette Community College and was an avid member of the Crazy Quilter's Guild making over 50 quilts for her kids, grandkids and many others. Juanita also handmade crosses that she sent all over the world with various missionaries, further cementing her faith and will to do for others.
Juanita is survived by her daughter Sharon Shaw Watts(James); grandsons Jason Michael(Carrena), James Aaron(Samira) and Derek Matthew(Megen); great grandchildren Skylar Mae, Nora June, James Alexander, Bruce Marcus, Ruby Adeline and Arley Isabella Watts. She was preceded in death by her parents Lewis and Gertrude Hainds; siblings Albert Willam Hainds, Joe Jilly Hainds, Lola Mae Hedges, Cornelia Irene Stout, Lydia Marie Arthur, James Lilly Hainds, Berneth Hainds, Lillian Winifred Faison, Lula Mae (Billie) Worwag, Margaret Lee Riordan and Fredrick Donald Hainds.
Graveside services will be held at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Arkansas City where Juanita will be buried by several of her sisters.
