HOLMGREN, JO ANNE "JO," 85 formerly of Colby, KS passed away January 10, 2026, at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Wichita Kansas. Jo Anne was born November 12th, 1940, in North Carolina. She was the only child of John and Lana Christine (Blackman) Holmgren.
Jo's family moved to follow her father John's military career. They lived in Chicago, and Wichita. Jo attended Catholic School and later graduated in 1958 from Wichita High School Southeast. Jo earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Sacred Heart College and a Masters of Librarianship from The Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia.
Jo worked as a corporate librarian for Boeing in Wichita and later moved to Washington D.C. where she worked as a librarian in the Library of Congress. Jo returned to Wichita and worked for the Wichita Public Library as a librarian. Jo later worked for the Northwest Kansas Groundwater Management District where she met her husband, Rodney Eisenbise. They were married on Halloween 1986 although Jo retained her surname of Holmgren. They lived in Atwood Kansas, Colby Kansas, and Hershey Pennsylvania. After Rodney retired from his insurance agency he and Jo moved to El Dorado Kansas to be closer to family.
Jo was a talented ballet dancer and taught ballet to students in Atwood. Jo enjoyed music, theatre, art, gardening, and dogs. She developed a talent and lifelong love for making things from her mother "Chris." Jo was an accomplished seamstress and was a member of a quilting group in Colby Kansas and The Crazy Quilters Guild of El Dorado Kansas. A project of Jo's was making quilts for cancer patients.
Jo will be remembered as a creative person, a free spirit and an independent thinker. Jo is survived by her stepson Lee Eisenbise (Charolette); her stepdaughter Melissa Norton (Brian), Grandchildren Ryan Jones (Kelsey), Brandon Norton and Allison Norton, great grandsons Collin and Landon Jones, Cousin Mary Jo Mikulski (Bill), dear friends Darlene Johnson and Russell Warzyn, and many brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Jo Anne was preceded in death by her parents John and Christine Holmgren, and her husband Rodney Eisenbise.
