THORNTON, JERRY ALLEN "RED", 82, passed away on August 16, 2021 at his home outside of Eureka. Red was born on April 13, 1939 in Eureka, Kansas to Gerald "Jack" and Velma " Ritter" Thornton. Red graduated from Eureka High in 1959 and enjoyed boxing and lifting weights in his youth. Red worked for Greenwood County  Road and Bridge as a Road Grader then went and spent 35 years with Cessna Air, mostly as a riveter and then went back to Greenwood County after his retirement. Red was very well known for his collection of old construction and farm equipment that people came from miles around to see and try to buy(never successfully). Red had a huge garden when he lived in town and even bigger when he moved to the farm. He had lots of fruit trees and loved the huge elephant ear plant and would plant flowers all over. He loved his animals, to which there were many including horses, goats, sheep, dogs, milk cows and even a race horse or two. He enjoyed breeding his horses. Red was a down to earth, laid back man that could make a person laugh with his actions or words and his silliness. Red loved spending time at his family's reunions and mostly the time spent with his kids playing with them and being involved with them in 4-H for many years. He built a really awesome tree house and his kids loved it so much he moved it to the farm when they moved.

Red is survived by his children Patty Dore and Michael Thornton; grandchildren Ammie Mboule(Andre), Jaimee English(Brian Conway); great grandchildren Aven, Ansen, Acesen, Colton; very close family friend Fred Barthen and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Velma; 1 brother and 1 sister.
