Dorothy Jeanne "Howard" Blackford, 94, formerly of Andover, Kansas, passed away on Friday, June 15, at INTEGRIS Hospice House, Oklahoma City. She was born January 30, 1924, in Mulvane, Kansas, to Harry L. and Ada Mickle Howard. She moved with her parents, brothers Myrel, Lester, Bud, and sister, Betty, to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, in October, 1935, to escape the dust storms. She graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1941, before attending Northwest Business College in Spokane, Washington. Jeanne returned to Kansas to work as a secretary at Beech Aircraft during World War II. She met Joe Blackford, also a member of the Beech employee bowling league, and they married in October 1949. They moved to Andover in 1957 and joined the Andover United Methodist Church. Jeanne served as secretary at Andover High School from 1965 to 1986. She kept a register of trick-or-treaters' names/costumes and enjoyed telling kids their parents had come to the door as ghosts, princesses and hobos when they were little.

J eanne is preceded in death by her parents; siblings; and husband. Survivors include: Her children and their spouses, Joe (Susan), Manhattan, KS, and Jan (Pat) Dukes, Oklahoma City, OK, a grandson, Jason Dukes, and great-grandchildren Madison, Evan and Aiden Dukes, Oklahoma City, OK.

F amily will gather for visitation with friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 22, at the Heritage Funeral Home , 502 W. Central Ave., Andover, KS. Internment will be at Mulvane Cemetery.

F amily requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jeanne's memory to the Andover Senior Center, 410 Lioba Dr. Andover, KS 67002
