Jean Evelyn
{Rick} Wiggans
June 23, 1931 — December 25, 2024
Derby
Jean Evelyn Wiggans, 93 , a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on December 25, 2024, at her home in Derby, Kansas, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family.
Jean was born on June 23, 1931, in Wichita, Kansas, to Floyd and Anita (Bishop) Rick. She grew up in a nurturing household and graduated from East High School, where she began to form the values of resilience, dedication, and compassion that would shape her life.
Shortly after high school, Jean embarked on a new chapter, marrying and starting her family. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her children, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and care. As her children grew, Jean entered the workforce, first at JCPenney and later at a local bank, where her hard work and dedication earned her the respect of colleagues and customers alike. Even after retiring, Jean's vivacious spirit led her to drive for Hertz rentals, ensuring she remained active and engaged in her community.
Jean had a deep connection to nature, finding joy in gardening and nurturing her flowers. She also had a passion for adventure, often spending time outdoors camping and bowling with her close-knit group of friends. These gatherings were full of laughter, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories.
Known for her spunky and fiery personality, Jean was a force of nature—tough, independent, and fiercely devoted to her family. She adored her grandchildren, pouring endless love and energy into them, and took great pride in being part of their lives. Jean's impeccable sense of order and style was evident in everything she did, from her tidy home to her perfectly coiffed hair, which was always a priority.
Jean's life was a testament to strength, love, and determination. She was a guiding light to her children—Steve (Sheryl), Randy (Michele), Greg (Christa), Alan (Anita), and Dennis—and a cherished grandmother to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind other family members and friends who will forever treasure her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Joe Wiggans; her son, Gary Engels; grandson Jacob Engels; and her sister, Donna Fisher.
Family and friends will gather to honor Jean's life with a visitation at Heritage Funeral Home, 502 W. Central Ave., Andover, on Monday, December 30, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at El Paso Cemetery in Derby, where Jean will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Joe.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions in Jean's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 1820 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67214.
Jean's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
