It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Robert King, a beloved father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the community. James was born on September 24, 1932, in St. Louis, Missouri, to his parents Robert Lee King and Blanche Marie Burton King. He passed away on October 5, 2023, leaving a legacy of integrity, dedication, and a warm spirit that will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

James graduated from high school in Moberly, Missouri, and went on to further his education at the University of Missouri, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business. He embarked on a successful career in accounting, working for several prestigious firms. His unwavering work ethic and commitment to ethical principles eventually led him to establish his own business, Jayhawk Accounting, where he continued to serve clients with dedication and professionalism.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, James was a pillar of the community. He served as the president of the Wichita Optimist Club in 1974 and 1975, dedicating his time and efforts to support and uplift the community. He was also involved in the oil field business, contributing to the local economy and even listed in the Who's Who of the Midwest.

James and his beloved wife, Carolyn, owned B&C Apartments, providing countless families with a wonderful place to start their lives. Their generosity and kindness created a lasting impact on the lives of those they touched.

As a resident of college hill for over 50 years James was a devout member of the College Hill United Methodist Church, serving as a trusted treasurer, overseeing the financial stewardship of the congregation with great care and diligence.

One of James's notable characteristics was his enthusiasm for Halloween. He would transform his home with elaborate decorations and eagerly welcome trick-or-treaters with generous amounts of candy. He was passionate about sharing stories from his time in the Army, where he excelled as a sharpshooter and howitzer operator. He played a pivotal role in the heroic mission to save a bridge on the Rhine River in Germany.

James was a dedicated fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, and his enthusiasm for the team was infectious. He had a vibrant and outgoing personality, and his presence brightened any gathering.

James Robert King is survived by his son, James Christopher King, his daughter, Kathryn Lee Powers (Duane), and his grandson, Christopher Wayne Showalter. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms in the eternal reunion.

James Robert King's life was a testament to hard work, community involvement, and unwavering dedication to family and friends. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those he touched.
