Jacqueline "Jackie" Faye English , of Neal, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2022 at her home with family present at the age of 84 years, 2 months, and 1 day after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
J ackie was born on February 13, 1938 in Alva, Oklahoma in a snowstorm to William Joseph and Jessie Fern (George) Sims. She grew up in Waynoka, Oklahoma.
I n high school, she was an excellent basketball player being a starter even with her short height. She got the nickname jackrabbit because she was so fast. She graduated from Waynoka High school in the class of 1956.
S he participated in Girl Scouts and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waynoka.
O n June 2, 1956 Jackie was united in marriage to Charles English in Wichita, Kansas. They lived their first five years of married life in Wichita and the last 59 years in Neal, Kansas.
I n Wichita, she worked at Yinglings Chevrolet in the Insurance Department. Because of working in the Insurance Department, she could recognize the make and model out on the public roadways of Chevrolet cars. When she first moved to Neal, she and Charles ran a filling station with a restaurant in Neal. Upon moving to a farm in Neal, she worked at home helping with the farm while the children were still in school.
S he was co-owner and operator of the English Dog Kennel with her husband for 29 years. Her favorite breed of dog was the Chow Chow. She loved to drive her car to places. She enjoyed fishing and playing cards.
S he attended Butler Community College accumulating general credit hours and also earned a Certified Nurse Aide Certificate. She worked at Medicalodge in Eureka, Yates Center Health and Rehab, and was a Home Care Worker for the State of Kansas.
S he was Supervising Judge for elections and sat on the election board multiple years for Quincy Township. She served as Democratic Committee Woman for Quincy Township. She was supportive of her children's activities and served as 4-H club leader for Food Preservation. She served as a parent sponsor one year for the school organization Future Homemakers of America.
S he is survived by three children, sons Jeff English and James English, both of Eureka, Kansas; and daughter Janece English of El Dorado, Kansas; two granddaughters; Ammie English-Mboule (husband Andre) of Wichita, Kansas; Jaimee English, Newton, Kansas; four great grandsons; Aven, Colton, Ansen, and Aceen. She was preceded in death by her husband on October 17, 2020 after 64 years of marriage, parents, stepmother, and stepbrother.
I n lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Contributions may be sent in care of Heritage Funeral Home, 502 W. Central Avenue, Andover, KS 67002 which is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online, at heritageofandover.com.
G raveside services will be held at 11:AM Friday, April 22, 2022 at Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka, KS.
