Harold Lyle
Brumbaugh
July 11, 1945 — April 26, 2026
Augusta
Lyle Brumbaugh, 80, of Augusta, Kansas, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026. Born Harold Lyle Brumbaugh on July 11, 1945, in Herington, Kansas — but known to everyone always as Lyle — he leaves behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, and devotion to his family.
Lyle was the son of William and Dorothy Brumbaugh. The family moved to Wichita in 1951, where he grew up and graduated from Wichita Heights High School in 1963. As a teenager he showed the work ethic that would define him, holding down jobs as a pigeon keeper, a paper boy, and an attendant at a local gas station while still in school.
After graduation, on May 31, 1964, Lyle married Loretta Unruh at the age of 19. They had been high school sweethearts, and she remained at his side for the next sixty-one years. He was happiest when he was able to dote on her — to put her first in the small things and the large ones. She stood with him through every season, raising their three children and making the home he came back to every evening.
As their life together took shape, Lyle went to work at Holleicke-Perrin Tires as a technician and salesman. A natural businessman with a straightforward manner, he distinguished himself early in his career, earning a sales award from Sales & Marketing Executives International in 1965. He later purchased the business from Wayne Holleicke and Jack Perrin, running it for more than five decades and becoming a fixture of the Wichita automotive industry.
Outside the shop, Lyle's life centered on a small handful of people and places. His brother Jerry was one of his closest friends, and the bond ran deeper when Jerry married Loretta's sister Susan, knitting the two families together. With his mentor Wayne, Lyle and Loretta developed a lasting fondness for the Colorado wilderness, traveling there often. Together they bought a cabin near Florissant — a place they enjoyed for years and shared with friends, children, and grandchildren. Closer to home, in 1993, they bought a quiet plot of land in the countryside north of Augusta, Kansas, designing and building the house in which they spent thirty-three years — surrounded by the wildlife they loved, good neighbors, and each other.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Brumbaugh, and by his brother and dear friend, Jerry Brumbaugh.
He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Brumbaugh; his son, Christopher Brumbaugh, and Christopher's wife, Kathy Attieh; his daughters, Dianna Wolfe and her husband, Nicholas, and Tamara Wilson; his sisters, Leta McGuiness, Lois Peters, Marcia Sanders, and Linda Flores; his sister-in-law, Susan Brumbaugh; and his five cherished grandchildren, Bradley Sharpe, Nicholas Byrd, Alexandria Brownlee, Samantha Brumbaugh, and Brendan Brooks.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 502 W. Central Ave., Andover.
Lyle will be remembered for his steady dedication and his kind heart — for Loretta, the family they raised together, the business he poured himself into, and the friendships that came with it.
