Pastor George W. Lewis Jr. left this world and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on March 21, 2024. He was surrounded by all those who love and adored him, singing his favorite gospel songs. George was very peacefully and as he took his final breath, he opened his eyes and gave a big smile.
George W Lewis Jr. was born to George W. Lewis Sr. And Coriena Fern "Landrath" Lewis on October 21, 1936, in Kansas City, KS. He graduated from Rosedale High School Kansas City, KS. in 1954. He went on to join The US Army actively from 1955-1957. He went on to work at First National Bank of KC where he met the love of his life Roberta (Bobbye) Ann Langford. They married six months after their first date on June 9, 1961. She was his forever bride until her final day September 20, 2022.
George left the bank to work at independence, MO Post Office to work 30 years, retired and moved to Moline, KS, where he went to work for West Elk School District as a bus driver for 11 years. He was ordained as a Preacher at age 70 and was blessed to be Pastor of Coyville Church for 15 years when he stepped down as Preacher to take care of his ailing wife.
During his free time, he would guest speak at Longton Baptist Church. He loved writing and preaching his sermons. From September 2023-March 2024 he was able to preach full time at Coyville Church in Coyville, KS, which put a spark back in his eyes. Due to his health, he stepped down and for the last 5 1/2 years he resided in El Dorado, KS with granddaughter Rachelle as primary caretaker.
He leaves two daughters Kellie Diane Ross (Kenny), Karin Denise Coatney (Kent) honorary daughter Pennie Phillips, 7 grandchildren Vanessa Fletcher (Treg), Alyssa Wehling, Rachelle Wehling (Travis), Ronni Coatney, Jesse Harper (Nicole), Natasha Harper (Josh), honorary granddaughter Lisa Parsons and 15 great grandchildren; brothers Joe Lewis (Judena), and Bill Lewis, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Preceded in death by his bride of 61 years Bobbye, grandson Steven Paul Wehling II, His parents George W and Coriena Louis, sister Catherine and her husband Lon R. Cummings. George should be remembered for his love of God and preaching, and his family was his whole life he had plenty of love to give. He will be missed dearly by anyone that knew him, especially by those who loved him. The family knows we will all be together again in heaven.
