Geneva Sue "Suzie" Mathews-Petty, age 66, passed away peacefully at her home in Rose Hill on June 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving husband and family. Born on January 22, 1958, in Roswell, NM, to Willie Joe and Geneva (Bartlett) Mathews, Suzie lived a life full of love, joy, and dedication to those around her.

Suzie grew up in Roswell, attending local schools and graduating from Roswell High School in the class of 1976. Known for her vibrant personality, she spent many years working in restaurants and bars, excelling in bartending and customer service. Her career also included a stint at a power plant in Arizona, showcasing her versatility and strong work ethic.

After living in various places, including Oklahoma and Arizona, Suzie eventually moved to Iola, KS, to be closer to her family. It was there she began working at a liquor store in Erie, KS, where she met the love of her life, Michael Petty. They began their journey together in August 2014 and were married on March 23, 2015.

Suzie had a zest for life and a variety of hobbies. She enjoyed working on diamond art, gardening, and watching horseracing. Her passion for the holidays, particularly her love for the Grinch, brought joy to many. Known for her culinary skills, Suziea was an exceptional cook, and her home was always filled with laughter and good food.

Her warm, bubbly personality and unfiltered honesty made her a beloved figure to all who knew her. Suzie's greatest loves were her family and her dogs, Paisley and Mickey. A philanthropist at heart, she was always eager to fundraise for others and supported many organizations dear to her.

Suzie is survived by her devoted husband, Mike; her children, Gennifer Tvrdik (Greg) of Tyler, TX, Zane Slater (Lisa) of Erie, KS, and Khya Taylor (Ronnie) of Erie, KS; her stepchildren, Kirk Petty (Angela) of Belton, MO, and Wendy Lawrence (Dan) of Wichita, KS; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her cherished dogs, Paisley and Mickey; her siblings, LaNell Hilderbran (Howard) of Estill Springs, TN, Donnie Mathews(Angi) of Loco Hills, NM, and Sheila Yarnell (Terry) of Iola, KS; along with numerous other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Geneva.

A memorial service to celebrate Suzie's life will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Church on 14242 E 21st N Wichita, KS 67230. Her family invites all who knew and loved Geneva to join them in honoring her memory and celebrating the wonderful life she lived.
