DAVEY, GARY RAY, 77 passed away on July 28, 2021, at Homestead Health Center. Gary was born on February 8, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas, to James and Margaret Davey (Bonecutter). James and Margaret established their life in Wichita, Kansas, where they raised two daughters, Judy and Patricia, and their son, Gary. Gary attended and graduated from Wichita East High School on May 25, 1962. Following high school, he joined the United States Navy, serving from August 1965 to August 1967. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (3-Bronze Star), and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his discharge from the Navy, he married his first wife on February 11, 1968, in Derby, Kansas, and started his family, raising two daughters, Amy and Jenny, and one son, Matthew. He divorced in November 1977 and remarried his second wife in 1980, residing in Haysville, Kansas, with their two golden retrievers until they divorced in 1988.

In 2011, Gary suffered a severe stroke, which resulted in right-sided paralysis and loss of speech, leaving him with a significant impairment and under the care of several nursing facilities for 10 years until he passed. Before his stroke, Gary obtained specialized training working with several local aircraft companies in Wichita, Kansas, from 1979 to 2011 as a skilled sheet metal worker. In May of 1982 he received Employee of the Month for his outstanding performance as a heat treat/sheet metal fabricator.

Gary had a strong Christian faith and was devoted to his church. He enjoyed Sunday dinners and picnics in the park with his family. He enjoyed being a father and grandfather. He enjoyed entertaining at local nursing homes where he would sing "Scarlett Ribbons (For Her Hair)". Gary enjoyed vacationing, fishing, camping, biking, and making memorable moments with his children and grandchildren. Gary was a loving friend, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and grandfather. He will be genuinely missed.

Gary is survived by his daughter, Jenny Davey; his son, Matthew; and Michelle Davey (Hayes); his niece, Jamie Hinkhouse; 11 grandchildren;14 great-grandchildren. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, James H. Davey and Margaret I. Davey (Bonecutter), his sisters, Judy K. Heil (Davey) and Patricia Davey, his daughter, Amy Sue Hunter (Davey), and his niece, Julie Hinkhouse.

A private event will be held in celebration of his life for family and friends at a designated venue. A memorial service will be held to honor him as a United States Navy Veteran.
