Ethel "Pauline"
Risley
April 18, 1926 — November 18, 2024
Andover
Ethel Pauline Risley , known fondly as Pauline, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on November 18, 2024, in her son's Towanda home, surrounded by her loving family. Pauline's life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and a deep commitment to her family and community.
Born on April 18, 1926, in Osbourne, Kansas, Pauline was the cherished daughter of Abraham Roy and Lucy Caroline (Bliss) Kirby. She grew up in the close-knit community of Osbourne, where she attended school and developed a love for learning and service that would shape her entire life.
After completing school, Pauline moved to Wichita, where she met the love of her life, William Risley. The couple married on December 3, 1942, and began building a beautiful life together. Their union was blessed with one son, Paul, who became the center of their world.
In 1953, the Kirby family moved to Andover, Kansas, where Pauline's passion for education, community service, and helping others flourished. As an active member of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), Pauline served as Secretary, working tirelessly to improve the local schools. Her commitment to education extended further when she played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Andover Library, a resource that continues to benefit generations.
Pauline's dedication to her community didn't stop there. Recognizing a need among local seniors, she spearheaded efforts to secure and remodel a building for a senior center, creating a welcoming space for fellowship and activities. She also worked diligently to acquire a state-donated van, ensuring that seniors had reliable transportation to appointments and events.
Pauline's compassion and generosity touched countless lives. She had a heart for caregiving, always putting others before herself and finding joy in acts of service. Her gentle spirit and warm smile made everyone feel valued and loved.
Pauline's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to her son Paul and a proud grandmother to six grandchildren, whose lives she enriched with her wisdom and unconditional love. Her legacy lives on in her many great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband William, and her daughter Karen "Kay" Rome. She is survived by her son Paul (Lila), her grandchildren, and her ever-growing family.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 25, at 9:00 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, followed by a celebration of her life at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. Pauline will be laid to rest beside her husband William in Bruno Township Cemetery, Andover.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Andover Library, a cause close to Pauline's heart and a reflection of her lifelong dedication to community and education.
Pauline's legacy of love, service, and generosity will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She was a true beacon of light in her family and community, and her memory will remain a cherished blessing to all.
