J ennie Ernestine Cannon, a long time resident of Latham, Kansas passed away November 20, 2018 at home surrounded by her family. She was born June 3, 1921 in Upola (Elk County) Kansas to John M. and Mary R. (Leonard) Edwards. Ernestine was united in marriage to Clifford Cannon on November 30, 1946. Three daughters were born to this union, Rita (Steve) Morse, Linda Cannon, and Sally(Steve) Signer.

E rnestine was a graduate of Elk Falls High School and attended Independence Jr. College. She received her teaching certificate and taught in country schools. In 1952 Cliff came down with polio, together they owned and operated several taverns. They moved to Latham in 1958 where she worked as an assistant cook in the Latham grade school before becoming the Latham Postmaster. She retired form the post office in 1982.

E rnestine was an avid reader, learning to read at the age of 4 years. She enjoyed her grandchildren always having candy and ice cream and peanuts. Grandma Ernie was the best wife, mother, and granny ever.

S he is survived by her three daughters, two son-in-laws, granddaughter Phyllis(Jeff) Griffin, grandson Vance(Jessie) Morse, step-grandson Shane (Denise) Signer, Tammi (Steve) Signer, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

E rnestine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Cliff, brothers Chelsea, Kenneth, Montgomery, sisters Marie and Beuna.
