Ernest H. Unger, 78, retired self-employed drywall professional, passed away Monday, August 10, 2020. He was born on May 27, 1942 in Baxter County, Arkansas to Lon and Dovie Unger.

E rnie is survived by his wife, Connie Unger, children Daniel Unger (Teresa), Tamatha Knaak (Chris), and Trevis Unger (Danae); two sisters, Hazel Dowden of Houston, TX, and Mary Ellen Wall of Mrytle Point, OR; 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents, sisters Virginia Berry, and Georgia Jones, brothers Bob Unger, Junior Unger, Lon Jess "LJ" Unger, and half-brother Nathan Tilley and Richard Tilley.

E rnie will be remembered as a great storyteller, top notch gunslinger, family man, hunter, fisherman, and fireman. He spent 26 years serving Towanda and the Butler County community with the Towanda volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Chisolm Trail Antique Gun Association in Benton, KS and earned many awards for his speed and accuracy, and was well known for his moniker Split Shot. He was a proud leader and respected member of the El Dorado and Augusta, KS Alcoholic Anonymous groups for over 30 years.

A Graveside Memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Towanda Cemetery, 500 N. 6 th Street, Towanda, KS. We ask that masks be worn.
