DERRICK CHARLES SMALL finished his final act on December 5, 2025 in Wichita, Kansas.

Derrick was born on August 16, 1965, in Ottawa, Kansas to Ronald L. Small and Mary Small. He was preceded in death by his father. Derrick was a 1983 graduate of Ottawa, Kansas.

A vibrant soul and always the life of the party, Derrick had a gift for keeping his family and everyone who knew him entertained. Growing up he was known affectionately as "Dooley," a name that reflected both his charm and his playful spirit.

Derrick was a natural performer, gifted in poetry writing, dancing, and acting. He had a style all his own-effortless, expressive and unmistakably Derrick. Wherever he went he brought laughter, rhythm, and a sense of joy that lingered long after the moment he passed.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved mother Mary Small of Albany, Georgia; his brothers Tony Hobbs, Ronald C. Small (Karesse), and Daniel Small; his sisters Rhonda Robinson (Neal) and Alneata Barrett (Bradley); and a host of extended family and friends who loved him dearly.

Though the curtain has fallen on this chapter, Derrick's spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests contributions be made to the Ryan White Foundation in memory of Derrick 534 S. Kansas Ave., Ste 1108, Topeka, Kansas 66603.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Bethany Chapel Baptist Church, 131 S. Poplar St., Ottawa, Kansas on January 17th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
