Dave (James)
David Turner
July 12, 1956 — January 29, 2023
Wichita
Dave (James) Turner 66 passed away on January 29,2023 after a long hard-fought battle with lung cancer. Dave was born July 12 th , 1956 in Springfield Missouri to James E and Lela F (Wallace) Turner. Dave's dad was a missionary and thus Dave and his family lived in Pakistan. Dave graduated from high school there in 1974. He attended Calvin College in Michigan. Dave lived in many places, eventually settling in Kansas in the early 1980's. Dave had many careers, from Tuxedos and formal wear, brick tender, asbestos removal expert and finally Apollon Computers, where he found a home and family.
Dave's passions were photography and music. He shot many bands in action and was very well known in the Wichita music scene for his art. Within the last two years, when the pain was too much, he would often get in his car and drive just to listen to music. Music was the medicine for his soul.
Dave welcomed a son in 1991 Zackary. His son appears to be polar opposite of Dave but in reality, Zack is very much like his Dad. Both were very athletic, can whip out sarcasm like a sword, both love music and have things that touch their souls very deeply. Dave and Zack are both very warm hearted and it seems that people are drawn to them, for the love and caring that exudes from them.
Dave had a large family. Not all shared DNA. That is just the kind of person he was. If he loved you, you were family.
Dave is survived by his son Zackary, his mother Lela her husband Jim, his brothers Steve his wife Jana, and Phil. Dave had many nieces and nephews, Natalie Turner, Nathan Turner (Leah), Lacey Stroud (Travis), Mattea Crook (Jonathan), Kayla Jones (Travis), Joshua Vega, Gabriel Little, Michael Turner, Timmy Turner and Haley Turner. Dave loved his family dearly; he looked out for them until the end. He also had his AA family. People who looked to him for help in recovery. There has been an outpouring of support and gratitude for his words and actions in helping them get or stay clean and sober. Dave has left his mark on this world in a big way.
Dave is proceeded in death by his father James Turner and his sister Carol Little
