Clarence Gilbert
Schwemmer
November 1, 1928 — January 22, 2025
Wichita
Clarence Schwemmer was born November 1st, 1928 in Lodi, California. He was 96 years old and passed on rather quickly to our surprise on January 22, 2025 in Wichita, Kansas. Known as "Gib", he was one of six siblings of Harry and Amanda Schwemmer.
This past November he visited the Towanda Museum and really enjoyed talking about the Whitewater Falls Stock Farm. He saw old photos of classmates and the stock farm and talked a lot about growing up in the house nearby with his parents and siblings.
After high school he joined the Air Force for 20 years and served in the Korean War, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for four years. He had a large amount of Air Force Pride! He was married to Margaret at Niagara Falls, his wife of 47 years. Their children include Suzie, Sharon, and Scott. Grandchildren are Tyler, Austin, and Jordan.
After the Air Force, he attended classes at BCCC and WSU, where he earned multiple PhDs in BioChemical Engineering, Molecular Design, and BioPhysics. He went on to work for First National Bank, Garvey and Farmarco grain companies.
Gib enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and family. Described as a good natured, funny, smiling prankster, he liked designing plans to "Pull people's leg." A trait he has passed down to his children and grandchildren as shown in the above paragraph. (See PhD falsehoods:)
Years after his wife Margaret passed on, he married Wilma. Wilma and Gib knew one another from high school and were married for 23 years. They enjoyed traveling together and spending time with family.
Gib liked to talk to people whether he knew them or not. He was a gift to us all and we will miss his genuine smile.
Service to be held at Palmyra Baptist Church, Thursday, January 30th at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donation to Wounded Warriors Project.Org. would be appreciated.
