Charles Edward English , of Neal, passed away on October 17, 2020 at the age of 86 years 7 months, and 8 days at the Yates Center Health And Rehab in Yates Center, Kansas.
H e was born on March 9, 1934 in Searcy, Arkansas, the son of Oscar and Florence (White) English. He attended local schools and quit school after the eighth grade to take over the family farm responsibilities when his Dad got his leg crushed and couldn't work anymore. He attended the Church of Christ growing up.
O n June 2, 1956, Charles was united in marriage to Jacqueline (Jackie) Sims in Wichita, Kansas. They lived their first five years of married life in Wichita and the last 59 years in Neal, Kansas.
W hen he first moved to Neal, he and Jackie ran a filling station with a restaurant in Neal. He worked various other jobs throughout his life including Coleman's assembly line, Hydepark Dairy, bowling alley, Bernum Construction, Cheever Oil Well Service, K3, and Greenwood County Road and Bridge Department as number 22, Charlie the sign man. He was co-owner and operator of the English Dog Kennel with his wife for 29 years.
H e was an avid and outstanding gardner who liked to watch the plants grow and give away the produce to others. He enjoyed taking care of his little farm and especially working with and developing a rapport with his cattle. He loved the outdoors including activities of fishing and hunting in his younger years, and all animals in general. Over the years on his farm, he also raised rabbits, sheep, hogs, birds, and guinea pigs. He enjoyed watching animal shows on the Discovery and National Geographic channels.
H e liked politics and had once served as the Democrat Committee man for Quincy Township. He had strong work ethics and his word was his bond. He was kind and would offer you a Pepsi.
H e is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jackie of the home; three children, sons Jeff English and James English, both of Eureka, Kansas; and daughter Janece English of El Dorado, Kansas; two granddaughters; Ammie English-Mboule (husband Andre) of Wichita, Kansas; Jaimee English, Newton, Kansas; four great- grandsons; Aven, Colton, Ansen, and Acen; sisters Eva Mae Treadway and Gladys Hedges; and brother Earl English, all of Wichita, Kansas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Leslie, Bufford and Roy; half-brother Henry; and sister Ruby.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2020 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka, Kansas. Please wear a mask and observe social distancing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to your favorite humane society or other animal charity.
