Charles Aaron "Charlie" Reed , age 64, beloved Husband, Brother, Daddy and PopPop went to be with Jesus peacefully at his home in Douglass, KS surrounded by family on December 5, 2023, after a short but fiercely fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He is preceded in death by his father Ralph Reed, mother Helen Kandt and stepfather Kenneth Kandt. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Jana, daughters Devan (Rick) Williams, Andover, KS, Daleigh (Theron) Brines, Douglass, KS, son Dawson Reed, Douglass, KS and grandchildren, Dade and Hailey Williams, Vyper Reed and Leighton Brines. He is also greatly missed by his sister, Carla Shipe, Wichita, KS, stepmother Marilyn Cooper, Wichita, KS, nephew Bryce (Emily) Shipe, Virginia Beach, VA and niece Carissa Campbell, Hutchinson, KS. Charles was loved and will be missed by a huge extended family and many friends.

Charles was born on April 14, 1959, in Wichita, KS at Wesley Medical Center to Ralph C. Reed and Helen M. (Pomeroy) Reed. Charlie spent most of his childhood years growing up in Wichita, KS, splitting time between his parents following their divorce. He had fond memories of time spent on the Pomeroy Family farm in Norwich, KS making memories with cousins, Jerry, Ronnie, Richard, Betty and Brenda. He also played little league football. In 1971 his mother Helen remarried Kenneth Kandt and they moved to Rose Hill, KS. In 1969 his father Ralph married Marilyn and in 1972 Charles was blessed with a little sister, Carla, whom he loved dearly.

Charles attended Rose Hill High School from 10th grade to graduation in 1977. He was a good student and school came naturally easy for him. He would tell you the best thing that came out of is high school years was meeting the love of his life, Jana Myers. They dated in high school and were married March 7, 1980, at the Rose Hill Friends Church. Theirs was a once in a lifetime kind of love. They briefly lived in an apartment in Wichita and then a small house in Rose Hill before purchasing their 40-acre slice of heaven, later named Rstandingstone Ranch, outside of Douglass, KS.

Charles studied for a year at Wichita State University before accepting a position with the IT department in Cessna Aircraft Company in 1979, where he worked until his position was outsourced to Computer Sciences Corporation in 2004. He remained with CSC until 2014 when he was laid off. After that he worked some small, odd jobs including maintenance for a series of Little Caesars restaurants and lawn care with a friend in Haysville, KS. In 2017 he was hired to help open the Woodard Mercantile Andover store and then became the warehouse manager. He remained employed here until his passing and treasured his time here with the Woodard Mercantile Family. Staff and customers have all expressed how they will miss the kind smile and easy conversation around the store. His most cherished position, one he affectionately gave himself was the "Head Cow Poke at Rstandingstone Ranch." He loved working on the land and often joked good-naturedly about the endless "honey do" list involved in running the ranch.

Charles was delighted in 1990 when the birth of he and Jana's first child, a daughter, Devan Aaron, made him a father. In 1998 they welcomed a second daughter, Daleigh Len, and then in 1999 a son, Dawson Charles. Charles was a wonderful father, ever present for his children, supporting them however he could in everything they did whether that was sports, horse shows, church activities and professional accomplishments in their adult lives. He often boasted of his daughter Devan being a Wichita Police Officer and his son Dawson being a United States Marine. He took on the role of PopPop in 2020 when he gained 2 grandchildren, Dade and Hailey, through marriage and another one, Vyper, was born. He supported all of them in their activities, coming to baseball games, horse shows and giving tractor rides. He was so thrilled to welcome his most recent granddaughter, Leighton, this October. Charles would tell

you he has numerous adopted children as he considered the friends his children brought to the house his own.

For the past 43 years Charles has been married to Jana, the love of his life. They enjoyed 10 years of marriage before having their first child allowing them to focus on marriage. They took the opportunity to travel and have some adventures as a couple. They raised their 3 children on the ranch and took numerous family vacations over the years and spent many summers at a lake or taking in a show in Branson, MO. In recent years, as the kids had all grown and moved out, Charles and Jana took several long vacations, hauling their horses and riding in the mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. Charles loved Jana wholeheartedly and without condition, doing whatever he could to make her happy. He often bragged about his hard-working cowgirl of a wife. He never failed to express his love for Jana.

Charles was regarded by all who knew him as a hardworking, kindhearted and selfless man. He would go out of his way to help anyone who needed it even if that meant he had to go without. He greeted everyone with a smile and a conversation and never knew a stranger. He leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and an unfillable void in the lives of those who love him most.

Visitation with family will be Thursday December 14th, 2023, from 5-7 PM and the funeral service will be December 15th, 2023, at 2 PM, both at Rose Hill Christian Church, with internment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family asks that memorials in Charles' honor be made to the Rstandingstone Ranch.
