Cathryn (Cathy) Lynn Spangler peacefully passed away, at her home and surrounded by family on May 28, 2025, after bravely battling brain cancer. She was 68 years old.

Cathy was born in Wichita, Kansas on October 28, 1956 to Elmer Dempsey and Althea Nadine Ralston. During her younger years, Cathy enjoyed spending time outdoors, making her own clothing, and cross-stitching.

Cathy went on to attend the Wesley School of Nursing to pursue a life-long career caring for patients. She spent several years living out of Kansas, especially enjoying the mountains of Colorado.

In 1991, Cathy began taking flying lessons from a man named Jeff. Cathy earned her private pilot license and a friendship to last – Cathy would go on to marry Jeff Corey Spangler. After purchasing a rustic home in Andover, Kansas, Cathy and Jeff had two children, Taylor Lee Spangler (1994) and Julie Renae Spangler (1997).

Cathy was a dedicated primary nurse at the Cancer Center of Kansas (CCK) for over 30 years, starting her career there working with Dr. Harry Hynes. She found fulfillment in working hard each day, with a work ethic like no other, to provide the absolute best care to her patients and forming friendships with her colleagues. Cathy was the survivor of two previous cancer battles, inspiring her patients and colleagues by continuing to work for CCK until her death – she loved her job and the work she did.

Cathy was an incredible wife and mother – selfless and caring beyond description, funny and adventurous to the perfect point, and encouraging of everyone's goals and happiness. She enjoyed the outdoors in all ways – nurturing plants and wildlife, watching animals, doing yard work and chores. She also enjoyed caring for and spending time with the various animals that the family adopted – from cats and dogs, to horses and bunnies, to birds and fish. She enjoyed traveling in the family's camper, airplane, or car to locations all over the country – especially to the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, New Mexico and to visit her daughter in Madison, Wisconsin.

Cathy continues to watch over her husband Jeff, sweet dog Missy, and silly cat Rascal; she will always be with her son Taylor, daughter Julie, and Julie's fiancé Thomas Mason Williams. Cathy leaves behind her brother Gary Ralston. She joins her father Elmer, mother Nadine, and brother Joel Ralston in Heaven, along with all the pets she loved over the years.

Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Faith Baptist Church, 417 W. Central Ave., Andover.
