Cary T
Knopf
October 9, 1948 — November 13, 2023
Bel Aire
KNOPF, CARY T., 75, born to Aaron and Jeanette Knopf in Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully at home on November 13, 2023. He was predeceased by his mother at an early age and his father shortly after his graduation from a boarding school in Connecticut, a pivotal moment that redirected the course of his life.
Cary's journey led him to Tucson, Arizona, where he embarked on a distinguished career in law enforcement with the sheriff's department. After a few years, he enlisted in the Air Force becoming a Military Police Officer and Security Specialist, setting the stage for a life of service and adventure. Cary's travels took him to Aurora, Colorado, where he met the love of his life, Debbie. Their romance blossomed, and they were married in March of 1979.
The military life took Cary and his growing family to various corners of the world, from Greece to Germany where their first child, David, was born, to South Dakota, where his daughter Caryn joined the family. Cary's career in the Air Force further expanded their horizons, with postings in Germany and finally Wichita, Kansas, where he retired with honor from the military. Undeterred, Cary pursued higher education, earning a bachelor's degree and dedicating another decade to a second career.
Cary was a man of diverse interests. He had a passion for guns, photography, hiking, motocross, his dogs Amy, Toby, and Lexi, and all things Star Trek. He cherished moments with his family, particularly his grandchildren, and found time for intellectual pursuits through avidly following current events on Fox News. Known for his love of history, Cary was characterized by his stubbornness, preference for personal space, and a reserved demeanor—unless, of course, he was in the presence of his family, and anyone mentioned something that piqued his interest. Constantly seeking out ways to expand his understanding of the world around him, Cary always tempered his actions with wisdom.
Survived by his devoted wife, Debbie Knopf, and his children David Knopf (Sara Kruser), Caryn Morphis (Justin Morphis), and former daughter-in-law Lacey Knopf, Cary leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment. His four grandchildren; Braedin Knopf, Spencer Knopf, Logan Knopf, and Allianna Morphis, will carry forward his memory. In his circle, Cary was known for his want and desire to have everyone around him to be as happy and comfortable as possible and his level of attentiveness to his wife, children, and grandchildren was unmatched. He will be dearly missed by family and friends alike.
Family will gather at Kansas Veteran's Cemetery at 1208 N College St, Winfield, KS 67156 at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 to place Cary in his final resting place. There will then be a reception to follow at the Knopf Family Home at 5934 E. Wildfire, Bel Aire, KS 67220 at 5:00 p.m.
