Brenda Sue
Bongard
July 20, 1951 — March 2, 2025
Andover
With heavy hearts but cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Brenda Sue Toney, who passed away on March 2, 2025, at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. Born on July 20, 1951, to Harlan Bongard and Ruth Ann Blanchard, Brenda's life was one filled with love, laughter, and creativity.
Brenda grew up in Towanda, Kansas, where she attended school and formed the foundation of a life dedicated to family, faith, and the arts. She embraced motherhood wholeheartedly, raising her children with love and wisdom. Later in life, she pursued her passion for music by taking vocal and music classes at Butler Community College, further enriching her deep connection to the arts.
An avid reader, Brenda could often be found immersed in romance novels, finding joy and inspiration in their pages. She also enjoyed playing computer games, a pastime that kept her engaged and entertained. However, her talents extended far beyond books and games. Brenda was a gifted cook and baker, renowned for her homemade rolls that brought warmth and comfort to those around her.
Her creative spirit shone brightly in everything she did. Brenda wrote plays for her church, expressing her faith through storytelling and performance. She was a craft enthusiast, always finding new ways to bring beauty into the world. Her sense of humor and infectious laughter made her a joy to be around, lifting the spirits of everyone she encountered.
A woman of faith, Brenda was actively involved in the Assembly of God Church in El Dorado, where she played guitar and sang with a heartfelt passion that inspired those who worshiped alongside her. Her music was an extension of her soul, a reflection of her unwavering belief and love for those around her.
Brenda leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her children, Lloyed Toney (Nicole), Derick Toney (Bethany), Hank Toney (Amy), and Vanessa (Chance); six adored grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her beloved sister, Judy Switzer; and a host of other family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Robert. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A memorial service to honor Brenda's life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 206 E. Central Ave., El Dorado. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brenda's memory to Envision, PO Box 131, Wichita, KS 67201-9922, with checks payable to "Envision Foundation."
Brenda's life was a testament to love, faith, and joy. Though she will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing that her laughter, kindness, and creativity will continue to inspire us all. Rest in peace, dear Brenda—you will always be in our hearts.
