Mead, Bernice Benelle, 81 , passed away January 9, 2022 in Wichita, KS.
B ernice was born to James Benjamin Easley and Carlos Hazel Estelle Easley in Dallas, TX on July 4, 1940. She was raised in San Antonio and graduated from high School in Alamo Heights. She met Don Mead at church at the Travis Park Dance, while he was in while in advanced training. He proposed on the third date. Bernice was a homemaker, had a ceramic business in Washington, and a coin and stamp business for six years in Wichita. She was artistic and enjoyed cross-stitch, and ceramic painting. After retirement, she volunteered at the Red Cross for National Disaster Assistance in and ran 41 disasters, including Hawaii and Louisiana. She was Chair of the Wichita Disaster Team and drove a blood drive route in Oklahoma. Bernice was great with people and problem solving and gave freely of her time and talents. She made a great team with her husband, Don. Also, she made fantastic peanut brittle.
S he is survived by children Donna Marie Mead, James Kenneth (Lori) Mead, Michael Vernon (Julie) Mead; sister Betty Easley and is proceded in death by sister Sylvia (Easley) Overbeck.
G raveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, Jan. 14 in Maple City, Kansas.
M emorial donations in her name may be made to the Red Cross of South Central Southeast Kansas, 707 N. Main, Wichita, KS 67203.
