BUESS, ALICE K., 71 , passed away peacefully at her home in Benton on January 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the life she so fully lived.

Alice was born on May 19, 1954, in Athens, Georgia, to Charles Merlyn and Anita {Durand} Buess. With both parents serving as college professors, Alice's childhood was filled with learning, curiosity, and adventure. The family moved several times during her early years, living in Lexington, Kentucky, and Culver City, California, before settling in Wichita when

Alice was about six years old. It was there that she truly found her roots and was raised.

She attended Alcott Elementary School, Robinson Junior High School, and East High School, graduating with the Class of 1972. Shortly after high school, Alice married and began the journey of motherhood, which would become one of the most defining and cherished roles of her life. She welcomed her sons Todd and Cody and devoted herself to raising her family.
Driven by a lifelong love of learning and determination, Alice later returned to college and earned her Associate's Degree from Wichita State University—a testament to her strength and perseverance. In true Alice fashion, she balanced life's milestones with grace and grit, even going into labor with her daughter Annabell during her final exams.

Alice shared her sharp mind and generous heart as a math tutor with Independent Living Resources and through private tutoring, helping countless individuals gain confidence and independence. She later continued her life of service as a caregiver and personal assistant, roles that reflected her compassion, patience, and desire to help others live fully and with dignity.

An independent, free spirit, Alice had a deep love for the outdoors and nature. She found joy in fresh air, quiet moments, and especially in time spent with her children. When they were young, some of her happiest memories were made fishing together and simply being present with them. She was strong-willed, fiercely independent, and unafraid to live life on her own terms—qualities that defined her and inspired those around her.

Alice's greatest pride was her family. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Annabell Alice Buess, and her husband James D. Williams II; her brother Charles Buess (Ann); her sister Ann Livingston (Guy); her grandchildren ZoeBelle Ann Williams, Archer Xavier Williams, Brynn Chan, Matthew, and Michael; her half-brother James Carson; and many other extended family members and friends who loved her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Merlyn and Anita Buess; her sons John Buess Wheeler, Juda Codey Fisher, and Todd William Fisher; and her sister Zoe Bell {Buess} Hurst.

Alice's life was one of resilience, love, service, and quiet strength. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion to family, a passion for learning, and a spirit that valued freedom, authenticity, and connection. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 502 W. Central Ave., Andover. Alice will be laid to rest at Benton Cemetery, near her beloved sons.
