BROWN, SARAH GONZALES, 75, passed away on September 9, 2013 at home, in peace, with her family. Sarah was born on November 29, 1937 in Rowe, New Mexico to Amado and Juanita "Dean" Gonzales. She spent her younger years in New Mexico, but the family eventually moved to California which was home for most of her life.
She grew to love the Southern California deserts, calling Barstow, Inyokem, Ridgecrest, Lancaster and Palmdale home during her later adult years. She always loved fishing and her vacations were most often someplace where she could fish, preferably for trout. Her last move was to Andover, KS to live with her daughter and son-in-law. While she enjoyed the changing seasons and plentiful backyard wildlife, she preferred to spend the cold winters indoors, strictly as an observer from a warm chair.
She lived very simply and enjoyed her daily routine of soap operas, crocheting and crossword puzzles. After moving to Kansas, she became a big Kansas City Royals fan and watched every televised game. Her must see favorite show was "Dancing with the Stars" starring her favorite hottie Derek Hough.
Sarah is survived by her daughter Debra (Mark) Benson; son John Gronniger; grandchildren John, Darek and Kimberlee; 3 great grandchildren; favorite cousin Tommie Martinez; beloved cat Stimpy and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Amado and Juanita and brother Gilberto.
Funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in the Daily Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to either Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202 or the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside St. Wichita, KS 67220.
